Hi, we live in a victorian semi and need some quotes for either renovating / draught proofing a couple of large windows, or replacement with wooden double glazed sashes. Any recommendations for great companies would be much appreciated! Many thanks.
We recently had a couple of sashes replaced using the Sash Window Specialists. Can not recommend them highly enough. Had several quotes done and theirs was very competitive. They also do refurbishment however we decided to go for replacement with double glazing and really wished we had done it sooner. http://www.sashwindowspecialist.co.uk/
I can highly recommend Sliding Sash Solutions. They did a great job renovating our rattling, rotten and broken windows. They were very honest about replacements and only recommended where beyond repair. Out of 3 quotes they were all about the same but they seemed the most skilled and trustworthy.
I would also thoroughly recommend A Buckfield Joinery (John Buckfield runs the business) and they're based in Balham. We've used them a couple of times originally recommended through our builders and they are really top notch, we've been very pleased with the four windows we've had from them. All wooden double glazed. And because they are a smallish business, they turned around our job very quickly. and John is a nice chap too! http://Www.buckfield-joinery.co.uk
I'd recommend Chapel Lane Sash Windows, absolutely fab local company, I even got yo visit their workshop to see my windows being made I dealt with Gary 07813329681
I'd also suggest Ayrton Windows - they're timber sash window replacement specialists. We had them replace a couple of draughty windows in our Victorian cottage & couldn't believe how much warmer and quieter it was afterwards. Nice guys doing the fitting too.
I can highly recommend MTM Herman. We've just had 12 sash windows replaced and they have done a great job. Mirek and his team take great pride in their work and craftsmanship. The windows are made locally in Tooting which we really liked. We visited the workshop before we made our decision and could see they knew what they were doing. We had several quotes and their price was about the average but we chose them because of the quality of their work and because the windows are made in the local area. You can contact Mirek at 0788 555 1724.
We have also recently used Mirek Herman of MTM Herman and are very pleased with the results. Mirek and his team were not the cheapest of the quotations we received for replacement of our Victorian bay window with 8.8mm double glazing, however, the quality is remarkable and we are very happy to have commissioned Mirek for the job. The details and craftsmanship are quite impeccable and his team is very professional. As I say, very pleased with the entire process and product.
Last year we used Chapel Lane following a recommendation from this site. The guys are lovely to deal with and you feel you are supporting a local company. However, we did have a lot of issues with the windows and whilst they did get solved eventually it took significant time and effort and repeat visits which was very disappointing. We've just had the rest of the house completed by Ayrton Windows and I have to say they are fantastic. They did it completely in the time frame, no issues and they look amazing and the finish is superb. We are really delighted and could not believe how easy and pain free an experience it was after the last time with Chapel Lane. I think a lot depends on the age of your house and the complexity of the job so it's always hard to make these decisions….
I would also highly recommend Mirek from MTN Herman. We've used him over the last few years to replace all the sash windows in our house and he's been great every time. I've found his prices to be very reasonable as well although we have only needed new windows with sash as opposed the cases which does add quite a bit onto the cost I believe (but would with any company).
I am an interior designer (Balham based) and have a superb carpenter who specialises in building sash windows. Contact me if you would like me to put him in contact with you.
