Hello, I was under midwife care at the Kensington Wing when I had my daughter about 18 months ago. I really liked seeing the same two midwives throughout and they were really kind. I did end up having to have a c-section but I found out about 3 weeks before my due date, because the midwife flagged up a problem.
I really liked seeing the midwives more often than you would on the NHS and certainly it was great being able to be a bit more flexible with the appointments. I had originally thought I would have a natural (but with drugs!) birth and the thought of being able to go in to hospital and have pain relief when you wanted it was very appealing.
The after care at the Kensington Wing was excellent and having your own room (pull out bed for daddy too) and nurses available to help with pain relief/worries/getting feeding right was great. It definitely isn't a hotel (which I think some people seem to expect?!) but it did make the first couple of days with a new baby not too stressful. The midwives were also helpful at chasing up test results etc which my daughter had had to have after she was born.
However, I wouldn't be fooled by the prices on the website! Even taking off the additonal price of having to have a c-section it was more than double what it says there and you have to pay for all scans etc during your pregnancy...not even the lucozade for the lucozade test is free!
I'd be interested to hear more about how it works getting a room at the K wing after an NHS birth if people managed to do that. Just having a little quiet to get some rest and bond as a little family is invaluable.
