Sidiq Khan leaflet drop

Postby Tooting Lou » Mon Apr 06, 2015 10:12 pm

Just wondering if anybody was leaflet dropped by Sidiq Khan on Easter Day/Holy Sunday ? I was rather shocked to receive political propaganda and a knock on the door whilst preparing Easter Sunday family lunch.

In a mixed community like tooting, it's probably difficult to pick a weekend that isn't being marked by one faith group or another.
But yep, someone should point him to the Sunday trading laws which specify the same opening laws as for Christmas Day, which means lots of people will be getting an enforced day off whether they want it or not, and are Christian or not.

This is not a racist or politically biased comment, I was just amazed that family values are not respected.

Well we had our polling cards delivered on Easter Sunday, which we found on our doormat following a lively family discussion about the election!

I see no problem with that, nor with any other leaflet coming through the door on any day of the year. We live in a multi-cultural and democratic society, and surely the quiet posting of a few leaflets - whatever their persuasion - through the door doesn't really disturb anyone.

Tooting Lou, I've just re-read your first post and realise that they also knocked on the door. I do agree with you that to actually go canvassing on Easter Sunday is unreasonable, as it would be on Christmas Day! Very annoying and not a good way to win votes ;)

Given the previous posts about Sidiq Khan on NVN, I'm disappointed but not surprised to read this.

All the people delivering leaflets are volunteers doing it in their own time so it's not that surprising that we get stuff through the door at evenings or weekends... Fwiw i welcome any attempt to engage me in this election! It's not that disruptive to get a leaflet, or even to answer the door for a brief conversation... I'd rather that than not hearing from our local candidates at all.
