I also love Ed at Edward James - and sent a friend there recently and she loved it too.

I've been going to Edward James for the past 2 years. The prices aren't cheap, although they compare favourably with central London where I used to get my hair done - and I can honestly say I've not had better.

Make sure you say yes to the head massage at the start of your treatment. One great tip that Craig gave me is to have a base adjuster aprox 4 weeks after highlights - it gives your hair a new lease of life for about £25 if the amazing Natalie does it!

My stylist is Craig (although I know from personal experience that Midi and Hayley are great too). He's a colour guru, and I've recommended him/ the Salon to a few happy friends.

I'm an EJ customer too and I always see Ashley. I love his cut and he also does my colour and highlights. I've never had as many compliments about my hair as I get now. However, I almost stopped going to EJ after my experience back in January. I had only 5 min left for my colour and the American woman (sorry - don't know her name) came over and said "we are going to move you to the sofa now because we need the chair". And she moved me to the sofa, put her customer in my chair, and I was sitting there, in the window, in my foils, and even managed to wave to a couple of local mums I saw passing... It was awful awful awful. Not the kind of experience I expect when I spend 220 quid. She didn't say " I'm terribly sorry but we are so busy and really need chairs. Would you mind etc..." She was rude and bossy and I was too shocked to say no. I should have. I later saw Ashley talking to her (he wasn't there when she came over to move me) and he didn't seem impressed. He was extra nice later but the damage had been done. I decided to give them another chance a couple of months ago and had a lovely appointment. Didn't feel like an object moved around from one place to another...

I've been using Edward James for a few years

I started with Ashley but on my second visit he kept me waiting for 40 minutes without an explanation and the cut wasn't great so I changed to Craig.

Craig's been fantastic on colour and cut

My only complaint is that the salon crams in the bookings which can mean a lot of waiting around. For example, I was there a few weeks ago for a 9am appointment. I saw Craig within a few minutes and while he mixed my colour I was given a head massage. By 9.30 my colour was one and Craig went to deal with his next client. At 10 an assistant washed my hair but then I had to wait until 10.30 before Craig was free to come back and cut and blow dry my hair so I wasn't finished until 11.30.

I also had to wait 40min which was very annoying and I almost walked out. And the highlights - ok, but overall very overpriced.

Hi
I've been going to Edward James since the very first day they opened and think they are amazing . I have Edward himself and think he is fantastic . I've never been happier with my hair and would highly recommend the salon . They are always friendly and have never felt bullied or forced into anything .

That whole Northcote Road area is just too busy for me and I can't stand being kept waiting for appointments. I find lots of the salons, etc. in that area overbook especially on Saturdays so it all takes far too long for me. In addition, parking is expensive and can be hard to find at times.

I've been going to Anthony Laban for years and over the years have seen different stylists only changing when they've moved on. Most recently Tony (the owner) cut my hair and I am delighted with him. I can highly recommend him and he's a lovely guy to boot. I've never had my hair coloured at the salon (only because I haven't needed to) but have always admired the colour on others as they have left the salon and also on those who work there.

Anthony Laban moved from Lavender Hill a year or so ago to:
Unit 3, Bennet Court
1 Bellevue Road
SW17 7EG
020 3475 6644
info@anthonylabanhome.com

Good luck and I hope you find the right stylist and colourist wherever you decide to go - sometimes you have to go back more than once (unless they completely botch it which won't happen at Anthony Laban). :-) x

I had a cut at EJ with the owner and it was not a great experience. He wanted to give me layers which I agreed to - they were fine at the front but it was as if he ran out of time to do the back properly and just chopped/hacked into it really badly - took me 9 months to grow out - and only just in time before my wedding - was not happy at all. Have since had a couple of good cut and highlights at The Drawing Room on Webbs Road. Having said that, I have a friend who is a very loyal EJ customer and is very happy with her cut (if I find the name of the stylist she sees I'll post again).

Hi

I agree it is a busy salon. If I need to be out of my appointment at a specifc time I make that clear at the outset and they work round that. Also if I feel they are running late I will say something. Any feedback I have given to Ed or the team has been welcomed and I think that may be the key - if you are not happy say something to them there and then.

The flip side of it is - if you are having a drama they will help you. A friend was booked in for colour she desperately needed but had just found out she was pregnant so the could not have her usual process but had to have something which took much longer - they happily did this for her.

Good luck

Claire

For what it's worth, I agree with the other users who have had good experiences at Edward James. I have been going to Ed or Natalie for my cut and colour since they opened and have always been enormously satisfied with them. I have a slight (and weird) hairdresser phobia and this is the only hairdresser I have EVER been to where I have consistently enjoyed the experience. Yes, they are not the cheapest but as with most things, I would argue that you get what you pay for and either I know a lot of people who are excellent liars(!) or it is not just me that feels that they have done a great job with my colour on each and every occasion.

In addition, both Ed and Natalie are extremely driven business people and have won several awards for the business. Yes, they want to make money (like any business) but they recognise that they are working within a customer services industry and that the best way of doing that is by providing a top class experience for their customers. I am pretty sure that they would be mortified to hear of your bad experience and would welcome any feedback which I am certain they would be swift to act upon.

Hello everyone,

We appreciate all of your comments and views on our team and salon. We are a group of individuals who take our profession very seriously, so it is great to get constructive as well as positive feedback.

We are a very busy salon, however the whole team work around the clock to make sure we can fit our clientele in and our busier times at the weekends can leave us at full capacity. If you prefer a quieter period to have your hair done we are open until 9pm Tuesday to Friday. Unfortunately as most of you know, our salon is a boutique salon with limited floor space, as most of the shops on the Northcote road are small, and we are looking at how we can work around this. Our team really want every individual’s service to be relaxing as well as resulting in a great hair experience, so if you should ever feel that we can improve on this please do not hesitate to let us know. If you prefer not to do this in person, we have created a new email for guest care which is feedback@edwardjameslondon.com

We often hold evenings for local women to come in and sample our services and give us honest feedback in exchange for services. This may be for new products or services that we are launching or to get general feedback on our services. We are aware that everyone has their own preference in terms of budget which is why we have recently launched a new junior stylist level also. We are also looking at ways of providing an express hair service for those who need to be in and out in a faster time, so please let our reception team know if this would be of interest.

Thank you again to everyone for your comments we really do appreciate your feedback, but please do not feel that you cannot let us know in person also as we are an approachable team and always want the best for our clients.

Kind regards,

Edward & the team.
