Witness Appeal - Gayville Rd robbery

Postby WandsworthResident » Wed Feb 16, 2011 7:09 pm

I have received a Witness Appeal from the local police, please see details below.

"On Tuesday 15th February 2011 at approximately 1810 hours a lone female was the victim of a robbery on GAYVILLE ROAD SW11. The suspects are described as two tall black males wearing dark clothing.

There has been a number of recent offences in this immediate area where lone females and females with their children have been targeted.

If you saw the incident or have any information that may assist the police in their investigation, please contact the officer below, who is investigating the offence.

PC Elaine McConnell or DS CARE at Wandsworth Police Station on 0208 247 8874 or 0208 247 8716 quoting crime reference number 0303469/10
"

Also, I understand that the Safer Neighbourhoods Team for Northcote is holding its next meeting on 23 March at 7pm in the Peabody Hall. If you're worried about local crime, please attend - they will listen to any concerns, give advice, and try to find solutions with local residents.

I also received the witness appeal from PC Katy Shepherd who heads up the Northcote Safer Neighbourhood Team. She would like the appeal to be circulated but also says:

"Many of you may be fully aware of this terrible incident, but please can we urge you not to release detailed information to the public as this can cause a detrimental effect to the evidence of the case i.e We don't like letting the suspects know how much we actually know because they tend to find alibis."

Perhaps we can lobby for more Police foot patrols in the area. Sounds like the same gang of people who are finding this area to be an easy target.

Don’t know when it was the last time BTC that I saw police on the beat.

Shouldn’t there be CCTV in all these streets ?

There are no CCTV cameras on the BTC streets because they would not generate any revenue. Plenty of cameras pointing at box junctions and yellow lines to catch 'naughty' drivers but nothing to protect pedestrians from violent muggers.

Jane Ellison, our local MP is holding a street surgery this Saturday 19th Feb from 11:15am outside the Bolingbroke Bookshop on Northcote Road. She is lovely, very approachable and genuinely cares. Worth going along to raise such issues.

Just bumping this as I think it's important that people are aware of these incidents and taking steps to safeguard their personal security where possible.

This spate of muggings does worry me a bit. I've even taken to driving to collect my son from nursery so I don't have the 40-min round walking trip in the dark. Feel very lazy for doing so but having been mugged before, am in no hurry to do it again.

I haven't noticed any police patrols in the area for a while and when I do they are at daylight hours. I rarely see a police presence BTC in the evening, when these attacks are happening. Am I just missing them? Has anyone else noticed a police presence?

I would hope they step up patrols.

Just bumping this post because of tonight's meeting of the Safer Neighbourhoods Team for Northcote - 7pm in the Peabody Hall, on the Peabody estate off St John's Hill.

If you're worried about local crime, please attend - they will listen to any concerns, give advice, and try to find solutions with local residents.
