Consultant fees for a Csection C&W?

Postby alongwayfromhome » Tue Jun 02, 2015 11:30 am

Hi

Does anyone have any rough estimate of the cost of a consultant to carry out a c section at C&W?

I will be having NHS care during the pregnancy but my insurers have said that they will cover the cost of a private c section delivery, except the consultant fees! I'm expecting these to be quite high, but can't find details of them on the website. Any rough guide would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

xx

Many thanks - that is useful. It looks to be about £6k-£7k for the consultant, but I presume that that is for consultant care throughout the pregnancy - has anyone gone private just for the csection? I'm (perhaps naively!) hoping that the fees will be a lot less just for the surgery?

Thanks

Consultants fees are about 3.5-4K. I had Shane Duffy and he was fantastic. Had done a lot of research on him and looks like he gives a lot of talks in this area and cannot be happier with the whole experience.

All in its around 15k if there's no complications. Consultant 5-7k depending.

Give Keith Duncan's pa a call as she will be able to tell you the Consultant fee only and who is available as Keith runs the Kensington Wing at C&W

I had this exact situation as needed a C section for medical reasons and the insurers said they'd cover all but the consultant fees - i was 34 weeks by that time, so just was interested in the costs of the procedure rather than full private pregnancy care. I never got an exact figure but was told expect to pay approx 4-5K for the consultant anaesthetist and surgeon. We decided not to go down that route.

Might also be worth checking what happens if you go into hospital before you scheduled C section date and have you C section brought forward. This is what happened to us in the end and so I was pleased we hadn't paid anything for private care when in the end it would have been all public.

You'd be better off saving your money and spending it on a private room for your postnatal care!

You will be in safe hands in the NHS, hope it all goes well xx
