I am pleased to say that cycling courses are available that teach children and adults how to cycle confidently on the road. The courses are called Bikeability and have replaced the old cycle proficiency test. Your local instructor can be found here www.facebook.com/pedal4health

I agree with MungoMuffit - if he is like that in public .. imagine what he could be like with his employees , family and so on ... when angered .. scary stuff!!

Too many bullies get away with this type of behaviour. What a nasty nasty piece of work.

Luckily he was captured on film on this occasion.

Of course he would apologise - how could he not after having so much negative press for his business.

I feel sorry for his family and any business partners he may have.

Brew Boycotted by me & friends. ( sorry to any employees )

If I saw a clip of my husband behaving in this manner, I'd wonder what kind of animal I was married to. Something tells me she probably already knows.

There is a few things I don't like about the whole story....
First of all, For me the inexcusable part is the fact that the guy drove his car so close to the cyclist....clearly endangering him.
The verbal abuse itself comes from both parts, we don't hear so clearly the voice of the cyclist....and we don't see his face, we just see the brew's guy face distortedwith rage with his eyes bulging out. As someone said we also just see the part of the video the cyclist wants to show us....did something happened before?....or does the crazy guy just comes out of the blue in his car, ready to kill anybody who looks at him in a wrong way?
Then don't u think the punishment is already much too much?....social medias...including trip advisor reviews...newspaper...
What will be the cost on his company?
What will be the reactions of the other children towards his kids at school?
Wife friends employees etc.....
Nobody was hit injured or killed....in fact nothing happened.
To finish with that who is cyclist who registers in nappyvalley net just to tell us with 'sadness' of this edifying story ?
Making sure everybody living in the area wont set foot in brew anymore.
Internet does not forget, in 10 years time video, reviews, posts will still be there.

While nobody was injured, I can honestly say that if I had been the cyclist in this incident, then my wife would have heard a huge amount of effing and blinding as well.

As you observed, this driving is inexcusable, full stop. It is, quite frankly, terrifying to be driven at like this.

Anyway, he's been invited for a ride by the local cycling campaign to try to help him see the issues on Priory Lane, but no-one's heard anything yet: http://www.richmondlcc.co.uk/2015/06/02 ... -mr-wells/

And regarding the response, this is probably a textbook example of how, if you want to live your life or part of it in public, then you need to think harder about your behaviour, frankly.

Yes Papagoto that was my point - the original poster "Cyclist" has long since vanished from the forum (as I suspected they are a "one issue" fanatic) and only responded here to re-fan the flames of indignation.

Yes the driver was in the wrong but this witch hunt based on cone-sided evidence of an edited video supplied by the cyclist saddens me - are the Nappyvalleyers so gullible? Can't they see they are being manipulated by the "Cycle Taliban"???

Enough is enough

Cycle Taliban? Yesterday at the Morden one way I'm on my bicycle. Correctly positioned on the inside of two lanes at a red light. Immediately as the lights change and I pull away, someone behind me is on horn repeatedly.

I look round and a guy in a Rolls Royce is centimetres away from me gesturing for me to move out the way. This continues on through the one way system until he passes me and gives me the "hand relief" signal. So I blew him a kiss instead.

He hits me - I get hurt. I hit him - His paint gets scratched. Who's the Taliban now?

Oh Julian ... really!

we could sit here all day relating "van cut me up here" and "cyclist nearly knocked a 2 year old over by ignoring red light" stories all day.

That is not the point.

The original poster has a bee in his bonnet like another poster on here who only posts to advertise yet another petition to bring in 20mph zones every where (including 40mph trunk routes such as the A3) ) and closing roads throughout NV to all traffic unless it's pedal powered - that's the "Cycling Taliban"

The OP had a motivation for posting here. But nowhere do I read anything like you are suggesting. Your position is just as polemic as the 'Cycle Taliban' whoever they might be.

I think it might be wise idea if those posting here and encouraging a boycott of Brew had a brief pause to reflect on their own very worst emotional outbursts. Now imagine that your entire workplace were allowed to determine the future of your career (or role as a parent) based on that one hideous and probably a typical moment. His behaviour whilst appalling happened in isolation from his work and to set out to damage a person's livelihood because he lost the head in a road rage incident is - in my view - utterly wrong. He has been filmed and outed in a way most of us aren't when we are at our very worst.

Agree with that. I think Tomandbobby's post is one to follow too. Good advice.

Hi All
I wanted to drop back in to explain my motivation for the original post.

Also to clarify, I am a very regular user of this site but used a separate identity for the post for this very reason.

It's worth restating my original motivation for the post.

EVERY time I get on my bike to commute to work I am cut up and harassed by motorists. Not most times, or some times but every time.

Some times that harassment is just stupid people driving and texting and not seeing me, so it's passive aggression.

Some times if deliberate and pro-active because they feel we're holding them up.

For those that aren't cyclists it is hard to explain the fear that a near miss can generate. After all, people die on a regular basis on our roads and I've sat in traffic on my bicycle with tears running down my face as a lorry sits on top of someones crushed bike (Ludgate Circus). I've attached a photo below but for this particular accident I was about five minutes behind and could see the remains and the crushed bike under the rear wheels.

When you're exposed to that and see that destruction, ones tolerance for people who use their cars as weapons is zero.

Frankly I don't care if he loses his business or not, but I do care that this year we've had far too many cycling deaths already

http://www.london24.com/news/cycling

I have a zero tolerance approach to this and feel that one often needs this to effect change when prejudice is so deep rooted.

If one cyclist's life is saved because an aggressive foul mouthed yob in a 4x4 thinks twice before deliberating driving into a cyclist then the loss of the Brew cafe chain will have been very good value indeed.

@ Davinao: i absolutely agree with your post and yes in principle i would like to be able to do just that, to think of it as a one off moment and he shouldnt loose everything because of that.
However you see this year i went through hell (breast cancer) and even at my lowest (think physically sick from morphine then chemotherapy, think unrationnal, emotional and paranoiaque) i did not endanger anyone's life (children and cyclists alike) because of my mood or because i was having a bad day.

When you are a grown up you have responsabilities. When ypu are a driver even more so.

In my book it is anexcusable. But i grant you that i may have been more forgiving a year ago... Maybe.

Davinao.. Great post..

I won't draw conclusions on someone's home/work life and wouldn't hope a business is ruined based on this.

I would hope he is ashamed and has sought out the cyclist to apologise.

My husband was once raced down the street by a man in a car whilst he was cycling..he also didn't hand in his helmet camera and try and ruin the guy. They ended up shaking hands after both agreeing they had acted like prats...

Just because you can antagonise an angry person doesn't mean you ought (even if they are wearing a tight leather jacket)..
