Cheeky Fox - A warning to all Parents with Young Ones Post Reply

Hello All NVN'ers

We had an exciting morning here last week - myself & my 5yr old daughter were delighted!

However, I thought it would be a good idea to post about though as may not be as exciting for others.

At 8.15 am our whippet was growling at the wall .... I thought she had gone mad , but in fact a lovely fully grown fox had sneaked in the back door ( I had left open ) and was tucked under the coffee table in our living room.

We were all up getting ready for school , work etc .. radio on.. we have a dog & a cat ... none of this seemed to put the fox off.

Such a brave thing, quick as whip and so silent .. it was gone in a flash .. literally!

So just be mindful of leaving doors open, low windows with babies/young ones unattended now the days are warming up.

I'm sure nothing would happen .. but better to be safe than for anymore fox x baby incidents... as foxes are fierce hunters by nature.

The back door was still open so it just dashed back out.. but so SO quick and silently ( we have wooden floors ) .. literally 1 sec there - blinked it was gone ! .. much to my daughters disappointment .

She thought we could of added it to our menagerie

We had baby foxes last year living under the shed in the garden. One of the youngsters came in twice. Wandered into the bathroom and we found him trapped in the bath as it was too sloppy for him to climb out and we had to manoeuvre him into the clothes basket to lift him outside. Second time he walked into the living room very calmly. We have three cats and they did nothing. Absolutely fearless of humans and very curious. Evolution in action I think

At 7 this evening I saw a fox cross the road in front of me, calm and casually using the zebra crossing! Wish I had time to take a photo.

please everyone be very wary of foxes - however 'exciting' it might be for them to approach you, they should not be treated like a domestic animal.

Sadly 2 weeks ago in the night, they opened our guinea pigs cage and took them. My 2 six year old girls were understandably distraught.

They seem lovely but unfortunately foxes do need to be treated with a sense of caution x

I have to say I'm a little disturbed by people calling urban foxes lovely etc. I'm just thinking of that time a few years ago when one mauled two young toddlers (twins, I think they were) in East London by sneaking into their upstairs bedroom. Had they not been disturbed those children would probably have been killed. In my book that makes them pretty dangerous.

I agree with firsttimerSW11. They actually scare me as have no idea what goes through their mind and whether they would attack if they feel vulnerable or hungry. I saw 3 in less than 5 minutes this week on Broomwood road, Webbs road and Northcote road.

Don't presume they can't!

We are joined to our neighbours by our side returns and a few day ago, in the evening while i was in the garden, watering plants a medium sized fox ran along the wall between our gardens. A cat was laying on the wall and moved very fast, I was rather shocked!

I think it had been chased/scared on the road in the front so it disappeared very quickly.....it had no intention of coming into either garden, however I was guess that wherever a cat can go a fox can and will!

Definitely don't assume they can't get into your garden. I often see a fox running along the 7ft back wall of our mid-terrace Victorian house and occasionally find rubbish on the lawn that must have been brought by a fox. It has also climbed up several times into the shared gutter of our side return and wanders around on our neighbours glass conservatory roof!

The last thing I want to do is disturb people, but I merely pointed out that foxes 'seem lovely'.
