Speech therapist for sort of lisp?

Postby VKAC » Wed Jun 10, 2015 7:28 pm

Hi girls, please has anyone experience of seeing a speech therapist for a child who does not pronounce all sounds correctly? If so, please did you have a referral from your GP or did you go independently by looking someone up? My daughter is 4.5 years and says "sss" instead of "sh" and "f" instead of "th". I went to our GP today and we are being passed to Speech and Language at St John's Therapy Centre. But I think that may be group sessions and I think I'd prefer individual sessions as I don't want her to suspect anything (although not sure I'd achieve that!!). Thank you very much for any thoughts.

My little girl went to speech therapy at st johns hill centre through the gp. They were not group sessions and they were with a lovely lady names Kirsty. :)

Hi I have been through this with both my daughters. I went private but that was due to time constraints. You need to get a referral from the GP for a hearing test first. I then went to a brilliant lady called Abi. In fact she just did an assessment on my daughter at the weekend. She is so good with them. For what it's worth we also have the 'f' rather than "th" problem. Her email is abihowarth@yahoo.co.uk. I really recommend her.
