Please help - Property renovation problems, lawyer needed

Postby Evergreen » Fri Jun 19, 2015 12:24 pm

Please can anyone recommend a lawyer who is expert in dealing with property renovation problems?
We have a company to whom we paid a substantial sum to renovate our home who are now reneging on the agreed costs. ( We have already paid way more than originally quoted).
We have proof of what we have paid to them.
They have given us no proof of what they have spent our money on.
( several hundred thousand pounds)
We asked them to stop work as the 6 month project reached 22 months and we lost faith in their ability to finish.
They are now trying to claim an ever increasing sum of money from us. ( In to many tens of thousands of pounds). They seem to be adding extra management fees on, as well as fees for snagging. We are flabbergasted.
Please help as the distress and anger their latest letter is causing us is immense.
We live in Stockwell.

There is a local lady called Sarah Schutte who runs an advice consultancy - her background is as a construction lawyer, but her consulting firm isn't a law firm, so may be more economic - I think her business is Sarah Schutte Consulting and her number is 07970 101 188 - email sarah_schutte@btinternet.com.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the recommendations of construction lawyers. My husband and I are also in a legal dispute with our builders and it is incredibly stressful, time-consuming and expensive. I have called the law firms recommended here and found them mostly to be extremely helpful.

I was wondering if anybody has recommendations for structural engineers who are specialised in legal disputes - we need to secure an expert report to demonstrate the negligence of our builders when they were digging the basement of our property.

Many thanks

Try Andrew Dust Structural engineer. they told me in passing something like 80% of their work was looking at stuff builders had done wrong. we used them for something else, but thought they were solid. check with your lawyers too they may have people they can recommend.
