Birthday party code of conduct Post Reply

Hi,

Can anyone please help me in understanding what the code of conduct is for birthday parties?
My child will start reception in September, and her birthday will be mid-September. If I invite the whole class, plus few friends we would end up with at least 35 kids.
I just would like to understand what the common practice for inviting school mates is, mainly in reception when they didn't have time to know each other very well.
I do not want to discriminate anyone, but at the same time a party for 35 kids it would be quite demanding.

I was in exactly the same position several years ago, ended up inviting the whole class before I got to know them all properly, found out another mum had invited at least half the class for a party on the same day at exactly the same time, which meant I had booked a venue that would be half empty. It wasn't too bad in the end as we had enough kids (just) but I found it all quite stressful at the time. Looking back I would have been better off having a smaller party with nursery friends and kids of family friends and waiting until the following year for the first school party. HTH.

been there. Daughter #1 whole class, not all take up the invite anyway. Daughter #2 asked her who she wanted to invite. Some surprising admissions, but went with it. No probs, early days though.
The party invitee list will shrink and grow as your children grow. You can't invite a whole class to a pony party!

My son is mid Sept also and was in Reception this last year. We didn't even have a class list to be able to invite the whole class, so we had a party for his nursery friends and a couple from school he knew already. This year for his sixth I plan to do him a 'whole class' party as a one off as I feel he missed out a little!!! After that hopefully it will reduce.

I have a kid with a September birthday too. Just invited people she was already friends with. You can set a nice precedent here for the class as one of the first. It is a bit of a nightmare when loads of people are inviting the whole class. Too many parties, too many presents, all a bit much!
