Can any1 recommend an affordable but brilliant hairdresser?!

Postby townieatheart » Wed Jan 26, 2011 5:47 pm

Hi, my second child is just over a year and my hair has been falling out for months now. I know that I just have to be patient and it will grow back but it is really getting me down and so it would be great if I could find a hairdresser that is great at cutting fine hair.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm in SW11, happy to travel a little but not too far because of children.
thanks x

Katie at Cox McMillan on Battersea Rise cuts my daughter's hair. She is brilliant, listens to exactly what i am hoping for, shows me where she is about to cut before she does it to check I am happy with it. They do a proper hair wash first and I think that equals a better cut when the hair is wet. My daughter has curls at the end and I didn't want them chopped off and they haven't been!

I'd love to know if you find someone good for this. I have the same problem and have been avoiding going to a hairdresser b/c I feel like they won't have enough to work with!

I have to confess an interest here: my partner is a hairdresser - you'll see his banner ad on the homepage, www.allabouthairandbeauty.com.

Anyway - I was previously a client of his, and went to see him when I had lost a great deal of hair through hypothyroidism. Of course I'm hopelessly biased, but he was brilliant -just quietly and discreetly cut in a series of layers to maximise volume. He's very big on what he calls 'personal consultation before you pick up the scissors', so if you wanted to call him I think you'd find him sympathetic.

His name's Richard if you want to look him up on the site.

I just discovered CAMERINI on St John's Hill - had my hair cut there a few weeks ago, love the new hairstyle! Hair cut and blow dry and very friendly and nice service - all for £36! not bad for london.

I go to Rush on St Johns Road to a LOVELY lady called Jen.

She is amazing and I thoroughly recommend her. She has loads of experience with women who have just had babies and listens to what style you want rather than just chopping away!

Thought I should update this post as I found a great hairdresser! She was actually recommended in another post and I thought I would give her a try. Her name is Sophie and she's an ex Vidal Sasoon Director. I've now used her twice and my hair looks loads better. It's still very fine but she's cut it in such a way that I can style it to make it look much fuller. And to top it all I'm actually receiving compliments on how lovely my hair's looking!
Her website is www.bysophie.co.uk
