Gymnastics for a 5 year old - advice please! Post Reply

Hi everyone, would welcome any recommendations!

Our five year old daughter (already does ballet) has come back from holiday v keen on wanting to do gymnastics, trying to do handstands everywhere etc...

I'm wondering if we could sign her up for a 1-2 day taster course somewhere over the summer, to see if she actually likes it? Does such a thing exist?

Also, if anybody has any recommendations for term time courses that we could look at for September, assuming it's not just a temporary obsession, that would be great too! I have of course searched on line but feeling a bit overwhelmed so a recommendation would be great.

We live in Streatham so Streatham, Clapham, Tooting, Balham, West Norwood, Latchmere could all work potentially.

Hi, my daughter has really got into gymnastics and goes to Flying Angels which is on Cavendish Road at the La Retriate School (not sure spelled correctly!. She has done really well, and really enjoys it.

They do trials so she would be able to try it for a day.

Also Tooting Gymnastics is good to but has a waiting list I believe.

The 'little gym' in smugglers way is also good and do trial classes. I think they also have summer camps on.

I second the recommendation for Litte Gym in Smugglers way. They have summer camps on now, and it might be the right amount of commitment to see if she's interested.
The instructors are also great with kids, and keep it age appropriately fun and interesting in addition to learning gym skills.

My daughters go to Mayfield Gymnastics (off Burntwood Lane). Not sure they offer taster classes, but I'd recommend them for term classes if your little girl wants to do something more long-term.

I also heard good things about Gemstone in Streatham.

I second both LIttle Gym (shame it's so far away!) and Mayfields, where my son has attended classes for the past year and he just loves it.

Do you know if any of these places do weekend classes? I found a few good options online but not many seem to do weekends. Thanks
