Any recs for sunshine hol for woman in 40s travelling alone?

Postby Jen66 » Thu Aug 13, 2015 11:51 am

I plan to take a week in mid to late Sept by myself.

Ideally I'm looking for no more than 4-5 hours flying time from London where it's warm but not stifling.

I plane to soak up the sun, read, relax and recuperate from illness. Looking for somewhere where I won't be surrounded by honeymooners or be harassed as a single, western woman (which rules out Turkey and Egypt for me).

Happy to splash the cash a bit.

This might seem like an odd suggestion but have you thought about Ibiza?

I've been a few times now and had a great time. If you avoid the obvious areas like Playa d'en bossa or San Antonio, its a really beautiful island with stunning beaches and easy to get around with a hire car.

I prefer to stay in the countryside at one of the eco-spa hotels which are incredibly relaxing.

I hadn't thought about it actually. I guess I associate it with being too much of a 'party' island!

Will take a look, although not overly keen on driving

It should be still warm temperatures in Ischia (off Napoli coast), we spent a very relaxing week there one year in mid-September. Or Capri island (off Amalfi coast), also lovely that time of the year.

Sardinia is supposed to be very chilled and peaceful (and warm, short flight, no fears as a Western woman alone I'd imagine).

There are plenty of female traveller friendly Agroturismo hotels in Mallorca. I've stayed in a couple, some in the middle of no-where, without a car, or some within walking distance of a village (Soller/Port Soller).

There are some relaxing hotels outside Marrakech. Understandably you might not wish to go to the Medina, but I think you will have a relaxing time staying in one of the hotels 20-40 minutes outside.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a relaxing time.

I know its further away but The Body Holiday in St Lucia is perfect for singles -- it operates no kid policy upto 14 years and is full of woman travelling alone, mothers & daughters, couples and has amazing treatments included in the price!
AMAZING ......

I went here to this hotel in Umbria - part of the SLH group - at Easter time this year - was lovely and quiet in picturesque surroundings. Short transfer from the airport but felt a million miles away from everything.

Very nice small quiet spa on the grounds too.

They also do a cooking school you can pre book if you wanted a gentle activity one morning.

If the Maldives are too far (about 9 hours I believe) I would book myself into a Four Seasons Hotel anywhere in the 4-5 hour flight zone. You will be cosseted and can relax in peace and wonderful surroundings. Great for some 'Me' time.

I don't work for them by the way but friends who have been always seem to have a very relaxing and pampering time.
