Beginners yoga recommendations?

Postby Oeuf » Tue Aug 25, 2015 2:25 pm

Hoping to pick the brains of all you yoga bunnies out there a little... Mindful of the fact that I am not getting any younger, I am keen to try out yoga as a means of keeping strong and healthy and an exercise that I can do when the running knees give up! However, I may be a bit of a tricky customer as I have tried yoga in the past but always found it a little 'boring' (sorry). I like to feel like I have had a good workout after an exercise session but heat and me do not mix well, so the hot and sweaty yoga is not for me. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations of the type of yoga I should try and where I can go to find a good beginner level class / teacher? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like Ashtanga yoga might be perfect for you. I've done it for years. They do beginners classes in Battersea Yoga centre near Battersea park Google it. Although I'm not a massive fan of the place... My favourite place is Shala, they used to be in Clapham North, unfortunately now have moved to West Nordwood. Not sure how mobile you are but I would really recommend them. Ashtanga is a very physical form of yoga which may suit you from what you say. I can reassure you that yoga is anything but boring if you get a good first teacher that introduces you to it properly.

I was the exact same as you and have been doing Nell's classes at Yoga Forever (http://www.yoga-forever.com) for the last few years and love them. Also first class is free so can try before you buy so to speak!
