Pregnancy in second trimester - Not gaining much weight - He

Postby Garfield007 » Sun Aug 16, 2015 9:11 pm

I am petite and 5 ft 3 in height, weighing 49.5-50kg (7.8 Stone) before I was pregnant. I am now in my 18 weeks but have not seen much weight gain since 2 weeks ago. I am around 52.5kg when I weighed in the morning, 53kg (8.3 stone) in the evening. The next morning it will be back around the same weight pattern. I have been eating healthy and didn't intentionally eat more or less. I eat as I feel hungry, not a lot more than I used to at main meals, but I do snack in between on yogurt, biscuits and crips. One thing I do struggle is between food and fluid. If I eat a lot, I feel so full I could hardly drink the required amount of water. Should I be concerned? I brought this up to my midwife but she just said don't weigh myself, it doesn't matter. I didn't do much exercise apart from my weekly pilates class and walking between home and station (2km a day).

Is 2.5-3kg weight gain too little for 18 weeks? How much weight does people gain in second trimester? Should I force myself to eat more even if I don't feel particularly hungry?

At 12 weeks scan baby was at the right size within range. The next scan is not until first week of September. I am not sure if I should pay for a private scan just to check that baby is growing alright.

Thank you in advance for any experience/knowledge shared.

Hi there,
II was in the same situation for my 2 pregnancies :-) not much weight gain the first 2 trimesters and globally 9 kgs gain in total for each. As you I was eating when I felt hungry (but healthier) which was not much more than before pregnancy. I never had cravings either. My babies were also within the range and I had no problem. I would not be concerned and trust the midwives. as long as your baby develop normally there is nothing to worry about. Some girls don't take much weight that's it! :-)
Good luck xx
