Christening lunch recommendations

Postby Piccalilli » Sat Aug 29, 2015 10:45 pm

Hello

Our daughter is being Christened at St Barnabas church, Battersea Rise in just 6 weeks and I need to organise lunch for about 20 people. Id really appreciate any recommendations either for caterers at home or venues close by.

Thanks so much!

My daughter was also christened at St Barnabas just last month and I hired the club room (upstairs) of the Northcote pub. I did exactly the same for my son and it was perfect. Staff was lovely so would recommend. There is a bar upstairs which comes with the room so there's never a shortage of drinks! However the food took a while to arrive despite me ordering it for 2pm - we didn't get anything till nearer 3pm. Have a look round the room and see if it would suit your party, certainly worked for us! Nims

I would be very interested in hearing how you found the service? I'm new to London and have yet to Christen my baby, but would like to and it's our nearest church. Do you need to be regular church goers? Or do they allow anyone who wishes to christens their child?
Also has anyone tried the family service out? Quite keen to take my eldest but I'm not a regular church goer so a bit nervous.
Thanx

Thanks so much Nims. I tried the Northcote but unfortunately they're booked. It looks absolutely perfect though.

Hi Sparkles, we're not regular church goers either but I do have a Christian faith. I really want our daughter to also grow up with Christian values, for us as a family to be part of the community and also remain grounded as life in London can become quite supercial.

St Barnabus is a really lovely church. The people there have been so welcoming and Richard, the vicar, is extremely family focussed. The family service is wonderful. There's a craft session for children then a 30 min service with lots of music where they can all join in.

A home meeting is the first step of the baptism process and you'll be asked about your motivations. My husband doesn't have very strong beliefs and wasn't easily persuaded to have our daughter christened but he found Richards words really inspiring and we both really appreciated his thoughtful words when he said a prayer for us at home and he will be joining me at the family service from now onwards.

Do come along and really don't be nervous. St Barnabus is such a warm and welcoming place x

Hello Mrs M

We recently had our son christened in Altenburg Gardens and I was feeling quite stressed about catering for 30 guests. We decided in the end to hold a party at our home afterwards and get in external caterers.

We used a company owned by Lexi Hambro called 'Arrange Me A' . They can organise anything you need, a wedding, birthday parties etc. They were absolutely fantastic and we had a fabulous afternoon. They sent in a chef who prepared all food for us and baked the most gorgeous christening cake. He arrived just before we went to church and when we got back, the buffet was set up and we were ready to party. The food was amazing and the quality of service and attention to detail we received was second to none. I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon as I didn't have to do anything catering wise! I can highly recommend them. Two other friends of mine have since used them and were equally satisfied with the service they received. To sum them up we had a great party, excellent food at an affordable cost. They also clean everything away afterwards which really clinched the deal for me! :-)
