Look for an Architect instead of a Design & Build Company.
An architect might cost a little more but the amount of value added to your project could be substantial.
Don’t forget to discuss your budget. It’s important to be up front from the get-go. First of all, you need to make sure what you’re proposing is possible. Construction costs can vary considerably, and just because the guy who fixed a leak in your attic says the project can be done for X pounds doesn’t mean it actually can.
An architect will be able to get you the best design for your property, recommend trustworthy and experienced pros, guide your investment, protect your interests during construction and save you time and money during the whole process.
Always look for registered architects and ask for several quotes before making your decision. Ensure you have all design services covered from inception to completion. Don’t be afraid to ask, you are not meant to know what it is required. Ask for building regulation compliance drawings and if you need any advice you can always ask at the RIBA institution. There is a section dedicated for Clients.
Good Luck in your search. I leave you the links for ARB and RIBA organisations. You would be able to find an architect searching by post code.
