Classes with a new baby?

Postby Abbeville77 » Sun Oct 11, 2015 10:42 pm

Hello
I am due next week and wondered if anyone could recommend classes that you can attend with a baby in Clapham/ Balham?

I am thinking:- exercise classes with a baby......I heard that there was something on the common?/ or anything else that is sociable and local? : )

Thanks for your recommendations in advance!

Hi there..I am a local Mum and teach baby and children's yoga classes - Tatty Bumpkin and Baby Bumpkin.

The baby yoga classes are a lovely bonding experience for Mum and baby, a chance to meet other Mums and include music, movement and story-telling. The classes are also excellent for development and communication and can help you with ideas for playing and bonding with your baby at home

I have trials running in December for baby yoga with a 12 week Spring Term starting in January. You can view the details on my website.

Straight after birth there used to be a 6 week class at George's hospital run by the physios that was great intro. After that I'd recommend doing a post natal Pilates class, so you can gently rebuild your core if you ever want to be able to run for a bus again! There used to be a great one at the vitality center if that's near you. But find a class you can get to easily as there's more chance you will get there with a little one...

If you'd like to give pilates a go (highly recommended for strengthening all those tummy muscles again) then I would recommend Jane Wake's post natal classes at Baby-a-Wake. http://www.baby-a-wake.co.uk/

for an outdoor work out then you could try Buggyfit - I went a couple of times but it didn't quite fit in with our routine so didn't persevere.

I am also due in December with baby #2 and would be keen to get fit again in the New Year - I previously got a group together with a Personal Trainer who specialises in postnatal exercise on Clapham Common - if you'd be keen for that then do PM me.

Not clapham or balham. But extremely near in Streatham Hill. Aquatots hold baby swimming lessons at a very clean warm hydro pool. Lovely clean spacious changing and plenty of free parking

I have always sworn by Fit For A Princess. Love them for postnatal fitness and there are lots of people that take babies along.

hi

Just to let you know I teach Postnatal Pilates in Clapham and you can bring your baby with you to the classes.

Pilates helps with strengthening your pelvic floor and stomach muscles which are weakened by pregnancy and birth. It also helps with repairing any gap in the stomach muscles that you might have as a result of pregnancy. It also helps with flexibility, strength and tone. It's low-impact, gentle, effective exercise so perfect for new mums to do before you're ready to do any cardio/weight training type exercise.

If you'd like to try a class, I'm doing a special offer next week of £7 for a taster class, so you can try it out before committing to a block of classes. The classes are on the Northcote Road on:
- Monday 8pm
- Tuesday 10am
- Tuesday 2pm

You'll meet other new/recent mums too.

Have a look at this post from one of my clients and also at my website for more info about me.

Hi Abbeville77 ... by coincidence I recently posted a recommendation for Sarah's classes (Nutripilates) ... she runs them in Balham, Clapham and Earlsfield.
I would personally really recommend pilates as soon after giving birth as you are comfortable and ready to get out and about. It is such a beneficial but calm exercise and really lovely to do with you baby beside you and in a room of other mums who understand and support.

Just another thought you may not have considered, a Baby Massage class is such a wonderful bonding experience for you and baby. I don't have a specific one to recommend as the one I attended no longer exists, but I'm sure others on NVN could make suggestions.

Congratulations and best wishes for the birth.

I would also highly recommend Sarah (nutripilates) - the classes are a great way of getting core strength and tone back after having a baby, and Sarah is lovely.

In terms of baby massage there are free sessions at most children's centres. the one at heathbrook children centre is lovely wed 1.30 for an hour. no need to book just turn up.

if you fancy it - london baby swim is also fabulous - down in wandsworth but you need to book a course and it gets booked up fast but take a look, have taken both my sons their and its lovely.

Buggy fit on CC and Fit for a Princess on WC also great.

Enjoy!

Sarah from Nutripilates is wonderful and also I would highly recommend Aquatots at the Streatham Hill pool. It's super clean and very warm which is a must for babies.
Our little one enjoys his classes and has learnt valuable skills starting at 12 weeks.

First Aid for Life would be delighted to come to your house and teach a First Aid class for you with a group of your friends. No problem having your little ones present and they are usually quite settled in your own house.

Hey, I've just started an indoor post natal fitness class at Local Motion - above Planet Organic on Garratt Lane (opposite Sainsburys).

Babies and buggies are welcome and it is suitable for all levels. I teach a combination of core strength, a full body workout and cardio for fatloss. Everything is scalable so need to worry about your fitness level.
