Music class recommendations

Postby SabineMum » Wed Mar 16, 2011 10:03 pm

Hello,

I'm looking for a baby music class for my 6 month old. I've tried the Clapham Old Town Library but it is now completely oversubscribed and I thought it was all a bit too narrative for a 6 month old, and I've decided not to go for Tin Pan Annie because they require commitment to a full term and I don't even know if my DS will like it that much. Monkey Music isn't within easy reach for us, so are there any other classes that you can do on a one-off basis?

Many thanks

There is a drop in fruity tunes class on Mondays at The Ascension Church on Malwood Road, Clapham South. It's a very sweet little class but the children tend to be a little older, a year and up. Although we went this Monday and there were a couple of babies.

There is also a really nice baby music class at St James' Church in Furzedown called Rhythm n Babes - its also a drop in and run by a lovely lady who plays all sorts of instruments for the children.

I've found Tin Pan Annie tends to 'encourage' sign up for a term but lots of people I know just pay on a class by class basis (£8 I think). You just need to call in advance to make sure there's space in the session you want to attend I believe. That's what we used to do when my DD was younger but now I know she loves it we pay up for the term as it's slightly cheaper overall. Smiley Time at the Bowler on Wandsworth Common is simple but good, lots of sing along nursery rhymes, musical instruments, bubbles and a story at the end for £5.

Fruity Tunes on Malwood Road Clapham South is great (see website link) - classes are also run just off Battersea Rise. There are classes that are more geared for Young Babies (10.50 on Tuesdays and 11.30 Fridays) but I have taken a 6 month old to the classes at other times and he has enjoyed it.

There's also Smiley Time at The Bowler on Wandsworth Common. Its a very lovely drop in class - and the woman who runs it Kate is really great :)
