This is the info regarding station and intermediate shafts. They need a station shaft at each end of the station to allow for airflow in and out of the tunnels. Platforms will be 250m long which governs gives some idea of why Waitrose was chosen.

Regarding Tooting option the Sainsbury and Tooting Market sites were listed as sites of surface interest in the last Safeguarding round. These would probably indicate either end of any Tooting Broadway station.

I don't think regeneration is a requirement - it's about transport across town

Colliers Wood won't work with the Wimbledon station - you'd have a sharp right angled bend

The TFL information is - obviously- glowlingly positive about the project and annoyingly vague when it comes to the key questions that will worry most residents:

additional noise, road closures, disruption.

I will go to one of the public meetings but not sure where to get unbiased information from.

I think as previous posters have already mentioned Balham has plenty of transport links already.

If anything I feel having the crossrail go via Balham would likely devalue the area as the rail and tube stations are already very busy in mornings and evenings. Also the level of noise and disruption for the residents would be a lot higher if we were to add more traffic through Balham. I really hope they reconsider Tooting as it would be a much needed connection for the area.

Need to have a read of these docs, thank you for posting! Totally agree that Balham is horribly busy in the mornings - but wouldn't the presence of another service hopefully ease the congestion on those there already?

Any ideas on how it would impact the BTC area if Balham is chosen?
will they dig below the houses or would they go further near the west side of clapham common?

The consultation PDF doesn't say anywhere that Waitrose will need to close. There is a planned access shaft located close to Waitrose but the station is adjacent to the existing tube station. From looking at the plans I'd say that car parking at Waitrose could be disrupted but no more.
With Tooting looking unviable due to geographical reasons then Balham is a sensible alternative and one that I feel we should back, by opposing Balham we could endanger the entire proposal of a station in this area.

Yes it does
the whole area is a designated worksite while they build

afterwards there is an access shaft remaining

Calaya - yes the proposed route crosses the BTC area - the bit south of Honeywell road

I *think* this is the latest map.

So Balham is now proposed, Tooting is now the "old" route.

Please shout if I'm wrong.

Apologies if detail a bit blurry, screen grabs fuzzy

I believe Tooting has been considered unviable by TFL due to the geological challenges and cost, I would advise we don't fight Balham as a suitable replacement for fear this too will be scrapped leaving us with nothing.

This is a disaster for Balham and will ruin house prices. We have lots of transport and things like a Waitrose also. The disruption will kill Balham as it just enters its beautiful regenerated phase.

Please if you live in Balham object.

well it will

1. make Balham a huge building site for at least six years;
2. close Waitrose for 6 years - will it come back?
3. close roads;
4. potentially ruin the new cafe culture

hence house prices where will they go? Up or down????

Balham is a nice place this will ruin it just for a bunch of commuters almost entirely not living here.
