New programme - Capital - about Nappy Valley

Postby GardenRosie » Sat Nov 28, 2015 10:07 pm

Hi all

We just watched the first episode of this new drama on BBC one, thought everyone would like to see it! Set in a street in Nappy Valley and about the lives of its residents

Loved it. The bonus-obsessed banker and stay-at-home-with-nanny Mum were so spot on...

Anyway, back to my basement conversion plans...

It was fun watching it all take place on Streathbourne Rd and the common, but I did the characters were a bit one-dimensional.

Still fun to watch streets I plod daily being on the tele though :D .
Agreed!

I loved seeing all the streets but I keep getting confused as I KNOW there aren't any double fronted houses on the "Pepys Road" so whenever they cut away I keep wondering where they are. Also I find the wealthy mum really really irritating, I know there are lots of people around here who think like her but I don't believe any of them are not self-aware enough to actually say it.

Then again...

:-)

I must say I'd love if they portrayed bankers and their husbands and wives as nice people occasionally. Wishful thinking I suppose.

However, I must say I know very few moms who'd b*gger off over Christmas for a few days and just leave their children. A bit unrealistic imo.

The corner shop is the one that's closed on Mayford Road- I saw them filming there in the summer.

The shop is that one Mayford Road, the street is Gosberton Road, and the heaver house is on Elmbourne Road in front of Tooting Common. I saw them filming in summer. The park is Tooting Common, too.

Oh I keep forgetting to watch this on catch up, argh, might have missed it. But recently read the book and I'd recommend it, very easy read and funny, although the characters in the book are all a little bit caricatures/stereotypes.

From having seen the trailer I thought the banker was totally miscast relative to the book, he's supposed to be one of those posh good-looking guys for whom every thing came easily... But not having actually seen it maybe it works?

They filmed all I've the place and the interior is a A Heaver one, I won't mention it as I know the owners! But the interiors don't necessarily match the front that may be shown.

Re: the 'City' couple [telling and a slight shame that most NV'ers I've spoken to view that couple as the only 'real' people in the show, the rest of the cast being unfathomable irrelevances], it was a tad unnecessary I thought to portray the wife as being so much younger, more attractive, and more money/status obsessed than her husband [clearly only with him for the money, perhaps unlike the book], who seemed like a nice enough chap really. Slightly unpleasant stereotypes. I've met some couples like that but not all that many.
