Joint Planning Application

Postby Georgieb » Fri Jan 15, 2016 2:27 pm

Anyone got experience of the possible downside of a joint planning app for kitchen extension? It seems fairly straightforward but I want to ensure I understand the implications before I agree - duty planner wasn't sure, surprisingly. With thanks for any advice. Georgina

Hi
What's a joint planning application?

I've never heard of one before!

In this case, it's when you apply for planning permission along with your neighbour to benefit from a bigger footprint. You submit the plans as one application/drawing so planning treat it as one building, IYSWIM.

Thanks so much, Annabel. You'd think everyone would be joining forces, given most of our houses are the same. I can't find many examples on the planning application search and even the duty planner was a bit hazy on the process! It seems a bit too simple so I'm trying to make sure I've considered the down-side, if there is one.

Hi Georgieb,

With joint planning applications the main downside that may occur is the condition that you and your neighbour both have to build your projects at the same time.

There is the risk that you may be able to begin works and they can't; putting you at a delay and adding cost.

There can be various other issues but it is usually case specific.

If you have already been working with architects for your project and they are about to take your project through planning they will be the best position to advise on this.

If you require any further information please feel free to get in touch and one of our architects will be able to assist best they can.

Kind regards
Jamie
