Dog s**t BTC

Postby Tilly&Roo » Sun Jan 17, 2016 1:15 pm

I am so sick of scraping dog crap off my children's scooters and shoes. It's disgusting. It seems the footpaths BTC are covered at the moment. Dog owners need to be more responsible and pick up after their dogs. Is there not a fine enforcement for this??? Grrrrrr

I know, it seems to have got worse again.

I'm not sure if the cold weather makes people less keen to clear up or whether there are a few bad apples who are more prolific but it is getting worse!

I agree. I find myself side stepping piles of the stuff on the way to the tube in the morning.

The trouble with laws that are virtually never enforced is that, eventually, people stop obeying them.

I agree, it seems much worse than usual at the moment. Some of it must be fox too as I've seen it in three 'dog free' parks recently. I did a bit of googling and it seems fox poo is a common problem in school playgrounds too - not from being walked in but from the foxes themselves getting in to school grounds during the night and marking their territory with poo. It's a real worry when you think of the serious health risks (same as the risks from dog poo, but perhaps even more likely to cause problems as hopefully some of the dogs have been wormed). I can't understand why none of the local councils seem bothered.

Very annoyed too. I am a dog lover but two days ago I found mess outside my house, leading up to my door!!! Fuming!

When it's dark I always walk on the road ( I live on one of the quieter streets!) because I don't want the risk of standing in it.. had to clean it up once and that was enough for me

It makes me think of the Broken Window Theory - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_windows_theory

"If a window is broken and left unrepaired, people walking by will conclude that no one cares and no one is in charge." This theory says that the little things matter.

I'm really frustrated too, something must be done.

I'm wondering whether the christmas tree graveyards on the paths stopped the council from cleaning the pavements over the last few weeks? Still doesn't excuse the dog owners but might explain why there is so much more than usual?! On our 500m walk to school this morning we spotted 5 separate "incidents"....

Snowpea, let us know how quickly it's cleaned up - I've used that online reporting thing before and it doesn't seem to get cleared for days.... By which time it's usually been trodden well in to the length of the pavement and doesn't look as obvious for the street cleaner to spot, even though I know it's still there!!! Yuck!
Have any of you spotted any (fox poo?) in the 'dog free' parks or school playgrounds, or is that just me being very unlucky!?

it is very annoying and I have also spotted squashed black bags on the pavement which I am sure are full of poo if you are going to pick it up in the bag take it home please. I and my child don't want to see it

The sad thing is London has too many often large dogs and you can't blame them for pooing that is what they do but is this the right place. A recent neighbours of ours (right by the common) finally after 5 years moved out to the country with two bull mastiffs I know they were v smelly as another neighbour used to smell it.
I feel the RSPCA and maybe Battersea Dogs home needs to give guidance on this which dogs are suitable for London. Big dogs need big spaces where they can run around poo and we won't find it as it will biodegrade like other poo.

Foxes another issue
good luck.

I agree it is so bad at the moment! I find it astonishing that people must see their dog do it outside houses etc, and they just leave it! I have come across several actually on the bandstand recently. So gross!
As a child in Balham in the early 90s I remember there was a huge campaign that made a big difference. I think they need a new one to remind people they will be fined (if they ever get caught?!)
I've tried the street clean email before but no joy - I feel it needs to be taken higher but Lambeth doesnt offer an avenue on their website for complaints etc (that I could see)
There are hardly any signs or posters, even that would make a bit of a difference ...

Does Nappy Valley net want to sponsor a campaign maybe with a dog food provider?
