Meningitis B vaccine locally?

Postby pie81 » Wed Feb 17, 2016 2:36 pm

Has anyone had their child privately vaccinated against Meningitis B?

If so please could you tell me where and how much it cost?

Thanks :)

I used these guys https://www.citydoc.org.uk.

There is a branch in the chemist 1 min from Tooting Bec tube.

It was 130 per injection and 4 were needed

I think there may be a shortage of the vaccine right now though so don't know if they will be able to help.

There are quite a few threads on here about this already if you search.

We had ours done at our GP (Battersea Rise). We paid for the actual vaccines ourselves and then the nurse administered them. Was a lot cheaper than the private clinics that I checked with.

Thanks both, oops I should have searched first.

I will ask our GP but previously they have not done private vaccines.

Weebrown, thanks for the email re Smart Clinics, that sounds most promising (and very local)

I went to the Wimbledon Park travel clinic which is in a pharmacy on Athur rd. They are great (went there for chicken pox jabs as well). I can't remember price but at the time it was the cheapest around. I think around £60 per injection and my children needed 2 each.

Hmm it looks like private clinics are not vaccinating any new children until at least June due to the shortage (citydoc website says GSK has requested this).

Travel Clinic in Wimbleon - if your LO in under two they need three injections altogether if over they only need two. They are £120 per injection.

Yes it is correct there is a national shortage of the Meningitis B vaccine. Supplies for the NHS programme for babies are being prioritised. The manufacturer is not releasing any supplies for private use until June 2016. If your child has already had a dose their first privately then they may be able to get their second booster dose through the same clinic.
If anyone wishes to join our mailing list we'll be sending an email when it's back in stock in June it will be £100 per dose (www.coynemedical.com)
Please try not to worry too much, the highest risk group is in babies under 6 months who should all get protected through the government programme.

I don't think this website should be a plug for your own company!!!

Plus the risk is under one year olds and not six months.

There are also many children who are diagnosed with meningitis over that age - you only have to look in the press the last couple of days.

Please accept my apologies for any offence. I am well aware that there have been several very well publicised tragic deaths of young children from meningitis in the news recently.
Which is why I wished to reassure, we have had lots of calls this week from mums very anxious to have their children vaccinated and worried about delays caused by the national shortage.
There are several causes of meningitis, Meningitis B in particular has a peak of incidence at 5 months.
If anyone is interested this and lots more impartial information is available from the Meningitis Research Foundation (http://www.meningitis.org/menb-vaccine).

My baby missed the NHS May 1st cut off by 48 hours; at 9 1/2 months old she is still in the vulnerable under 1 category.

It appears that every clinic in the UK (and NI) has been restricted from administering to new patients until June at the very least. Wimbledon Travel Clinic has well over 200 people on the waiting list already.

Does anyone know if it is possible to pay privately in France? Or has anyone come up with any other loopholes or avenues to obtain the vaccine rather than wait 6 months? :(

I also had my 3 kids vaccinated at Wimbledon park travel clinic. They were the cheapest and very nice people. I think I paid 130 per dose and our kids needed two each. It was just a few months ago we did it and I am surprised now there are 200 people waiting at this clinic!
