Out of London Schools

Postby Bee@lifeafterlondon » Tue Mar 01, 2016 11:01 am

I'm currently researching an article about the best timing for finding a state school in a new area.  With the date of school acceptances fast approaching we know a lot people will be worried about what to do if you haven't got a place, and whether moving out is the best option.  I hope to address some of your worries. Do message me if you'd like to talk it over or to offer your experience to add to the article.

Meanwhile Woodcote House School are having a scholarship/awards day on Saturday. Woodcote is a boarding school but it also runs a bus every day.  It picks up from Tibbet’s Corner,  just off the A3 close to Wandsworth and Wimbledon, at 7.30am. The 45 minute journey to Woodcote’s thirty acres will mean boys are able to be at school for Assembly followed by ‘Prep’. When the boys are dropped back in London at 6.30pm there is no homework hanging over them. For more about the school and to find out about Saturday's event http://www.woodcotehouseschool.co.uk/

If you are considering boarding school as an option you might appreciate an event which is coming up on Wednesday 9th March.

The Country Boarding Schools Reception will address the place of boarding in education today, the boarding journey and where it begins, as well as the benefits a countryside boarding education

The event is being held in The Smoking Room at The Athenaeum Club, Pall Mall, London from 6-8pm on March 9th.

It's a great opportunity to chat to others who have chosen boarding school; for some parents this has meant they have stayed living in London whilst providing their children with a countryside education.

Im considering boarding for my son when he's older - although he's only 4 now and the thought of not having him with me is truly terrifying! But I boarded, and I know how brilliant it would be for him to sail, bmx, shoot, ride etc as part of his normal day, and, as you say, there are schools which pick up on a Monday morning and drop off on a Friday afternoon so you only have to let go for 4 nights.
It's such a hard decision though, I'd love to know of any others considering it.

You certainly won't be alone in both appreciating the pros whilst also being fearful of the other side.

I suspect that the boarding school reception I mention in this post would be a good event, if you happen to be free on 9th March. It would certainly give you the chance to talk to others who are considering it as an option in the future http://www.highfieldschool.org.uk/boardingevent

Meanwhile just as an aside of course boarding isn't for everyone but I'm a big believer in appreciating we all do what we feel is right for our children and not judge other people and their decision. You'll almost certainly get a mixed reception on the idea when chatting to friends about it.
