From brunette to blonde / advice please!

Postby 2010emilie1 » Sat Mar 05, 2016 7:01 am

I am thinking of going from brunette (I am originally brunette but I have dyed my hair medium golden brown for 14 years now).

I am having more and more greys and I am thinking that it is probably time to go blonde. I am rather tired of dying it every 2 to 3 weeks.

I have a couple of worries and questions since this is a big plunge for me. I am a bit worried about not recognising myself, going to a hairdresser who gets it wrong and my hair comes out orange.

I am also wondering if I should go very light, platinum or golden blonde, highlights/no highlights?

Will my dark brown hair mixed with grey hair roots when the rest is dyed blonde look worse than pepper and salt roots on medium golden brown right now?

How long does it take? Do I need to go back several times? Does it really ruin one's hair?

Could you please recommend some hairdressers and share your views with me?

I would very much welcome your feedback!

Emilie

I suggest Honey blond with platinum highlights. When I did it my roots grew out every 2 weeks.. It's a tricky one.

If you are thinking of such a big move, I think you would do well to go to a very good colourist for a full consultation and advice on all your concerns. You may well have someone in mind but, if not, if you can stretch financially, because it's not the cheapest option, I can really recommend Olyvia at Daniel Galvin Junior in Belgravia. I followed my stylist of 20 years+ when he moved to this salon and he introduced me to Olyvia. She is very nice to deal with and very clever with colour, especially if you want a natural look and if, like me, you are not a high maintenance chick who can afford to go back every six or eight weeks - she has a practical approach to making your colour work for you and last as long as possible. By the way, out of all the smart central London salons I've been to, this is by far my favourite because it is not at all intimidating and has a lovely relaxed atmosphere whilst still giving me a brief moment of non-domestic glamour! Right, I'd better quickly call for my much-needed appointment with Olyvia before she gets too booked up!

Hi, I have 2 tips for you:
1. Go to a professional stylist. He/she will give you some advice on your face shape, skin tone, and the right hairstyle for you.
2. Lighten up your hair gradually during several months. Choose a lighter colour for your hair than it is now and each month go brighter. This way your hair will not get damaged and you will be able to decide if you even like yourself with light hair.

Good luck with the change and remember, the most important thing is for you to be happy :D

Charlotte or Lauren at Charlotte Cave in Clapham Old Town. Just had my hair done and some of my darker brown had to come up to match the top which was blonde and it looks amazing. Definitely recommend highlights over single process.
