Balham/wandsworth common nursery/pre school

Postby Polster21 » Wed Mar 16, 2016 7:12 am

Hi

My daughter turned 3 in January and is very happy in her current nursery, which is very small and nurturing. I wonder though, whether she may outgrow it in the next few months and need a bit more stimulation and learning in the final year before school. I don't want her to get bored and therefore get into a habit of behaving badly because she's a bit too bored.

Does any one have any recommendations as to nurseries in the nightingale triangle/balham areas that has a good pre school setting for the older children, where I might have a hope of getting a place in September time?

Thanks

Do you want full time or just part time (sessional)?

Hello, a few places you could try:

- Marmalade Caterpillar
- Oaktree
- Chestnut Grove Montessori

These are pretty popular so might well be full but people do move, so places may have come up in the 3-4 year - worth calling. I would highly recommend Marmalade Caterpillar if you can get a place.

Also:

- Lochinvar Preschool
- Balham Nursery (free, starts at 3-4, not sure of application dates)

My daughter went to Bertrum House nursery and absolutely loved it. She's very little in the school year (August) and was nurtured though her two years there. Having said that though, she was gently encouraged into learning and left knowing letter sounds and able to read simple words. She had lots of older friends who were beginning to take books home. We had lots of communication about what they were doing at nursery and I could talk about it with her. Definitely not bored!!

I know they're about to move the nursery to their pre-prep site (which is closing) and I don't think their website is up and running yet. I think the hours are flexible but my daughter had to do five mornings with the option of some afternoon schools.

Hi Mrs Grinling

The Fruity Tree Nursery is an Ofsted registered pre-school on Malwood Road offering a high quality EYFS curriculum. Brought to you by the same team behind Fruity Tunes, The Fruity Tree Nursery has a specialism in early years music education. Our children also enjoy ballet, languages and sport as part of our curriculum. We have morning sessions available for your daughter in September.

We opened in September 2015 and some of our first intake have already started preparing for their next school in September, leaving us to attend a mixture of local state and independent primary schools.

We are holding an open day on Saturday 14 May. Please feel free to come along with your daughter to see us. If you would like to visit at any other time, then just get in touch and we will be delighted to arrange this.

Depending on which side of Balham you are you could look at crescent III which is in Grafton squash and tennis club on Thornton road sw12 (right by the White House school). My child has been going there for just over a year and it is the most wonderful school. It is part of the mouse house chain so curriculum and activities are incredibly well thought out with a good mix of proper structured teaching and play, and they have just had an ofsted inspection with outstanding across every single category. There is a car park for easy drop off and parents come from Balham Clapham and streatham. I know they do have some morning places available in September which must be pretty rare for an ofsted outstanding nursery in this area!

There are lots of great nurseries in the area, you will be spoilt for choice. My son goes to Betrum House Nursery which is very nurturing and has a lovely parent group too. Its our first year there and I am happy. We have just been informed by the school that from September the whole nursery section is moving to Balham High Rd- their main site which has a big garden and spacious classrooms.
