Wandsworth Common lodge to become pre-school despite daily gridlock fears


The lodge in the centre of Wandsworth Common is to become a pre-school for 62 children despite objections from three community and residents' groups.

SMART pre-schools, which already runs one centre in Wimbledon, plans to open the Lodge and Cottage in Dorlcote Road as a pre-school from September this year after Wandsworth Council granted planning permission at the end of February.

Thanks for the posts and Annabel for your answer - yes can confirm we are definitely not closing! Our lease from Wandsworth Council covers the majority of the ground floor of the Neal's Lodge building, plus the terraces and this will remain unaffected.

The upstairs of the building and a gated section at the back of Skylark called 'the cottage' (where access to the new nursery will be), is under a separate lease with Wandsworth Council. Following a tender process run by the council over the past year, the successful bidders are Smart Pre-schools.
