The only thing as extraordinary as this thread is a recent post by the very same poster:

"Moreover, this is a local business that doesn't deserve bad word of mouth simply because you've decided they deserve it because you had a bad time... You may have had a bad experience. But it strikes me as laughably high-handed to declare the topic closed simply because you've accomplished the online equivalent of egging their door. You raised some serious accusations, about child safety, you called out people by name, and you suggested - inanely - that a family-run business is a priori "unprofessional." I can point you to a dozen articles in the "Economist" describing the professional achievements of family-run concerns, but the point is, that is exactly what makes Northcote House unique and precious. It is a family business, and from what I can tell, they've done everything possible to address your concerns. They didn't opt to exploit your public shaming to make some CYA-inspired boilerplate PR release, they actually reached out to you (as you admit) directly and privately. What I suspect they did not do, is succumb to public blackmail by caving and offering you a space in exchange for your holding fire. On both counts, they get my kudos."

Yes, the same person made the above post and this thread. Baffled? I am!

Yah. Not so baffling if you credit the notion that people decide where they stand on an issue based on their experience (real, live experience, not the second-hand variety that you all seem to thrive on, living by proxy on this forum -- which I will *never* visit again as it reminds me of nothing so much as the Daily Mail comments section, not coincidentally referenced in a prior post). If your experience of an establishment has been extensive, and positive, you are likely to defend them. If your experience has been bad, you are likely not to.... Simples, no? God. This was a waste of time. Question-- what do you do with bad service here? Credit the notion that someone was rude. Otherwise who on earth would bother to complain? Who would invent a story like that? Do you -- just -- accept it? It's not entitled to insist that people be professional and courteous. Unless your default setting, is masochist. I'm not one, so with that, I bid you all goodnight and happy hunting for your next target of pointless proxy rage. People with self respect don't invite abuse, they don't revel in it, and they don't invent these stories. But, do as you will. One word of warning: I ordered the soft-boiled eggs at Tamra, on other occasions, and they were cooked hard. Didn't complain. Laughed, actually. Gives actual meaning to the phrase, "she can't even boil an egg." But Rob should be dining out on this tale long enough to stifle any qualms about his cuisine.

This is the most hilarious thread ever!

Cafe Tamra - you have also earned a new customer in me and I can't wait to meet Beata who is probably amazing, and was possibly just driven to despair by an impossible customer. Possibly. We all have our limits. And we all love our local businesses and the fact that not all places look and feel like yet another American chain where you can get exactly the same coffee (or porridge??) wherever you go.

OP - you remind me why I never want to work for an American company again. Trust me - I have 20 years of experience to know exactly what I am saying. I am also sorry for you as you obviously have some deep unresolved issues you are protecting here. Ever heard of projection? I think most of us here are too secure and grounded to get upset to this extent about a bowl of porridge...

There are two types of people. Those who have worked behind a bar / as a waiter etc and those who haven't. It amazes me how sadly easy it is to spot the latter sometimes.

The problem is you're not credible.

You ask what to do about bad service but the issue is that you're not believable, so who knows how much if anything you've claimed is true?

Fantasist or victim?

Well thanks for the entertainment - I was in need of something between Night Manager finishing and Poldark re-starting.

OP get a grip. You sound unhinged.

You posted an edited version of the story to sound better and were caught out.

I've also lived and worked in America. I love America and its people but the idea of fantastic service there is a complete myth. They are unfailingly polite, yes. But they're mostly useless.

Move on. make your own porridge.

I've never read anything like this! Incredible!

The worst thing is that the OP has gone out of her way to obtain the names of both the manager and owner of Tamra in order to very publicly name and shame them whilst the OP and her disgraceful behaviour is hidden behind a username. In fact, the owner in all good grace has gone out of his way to protect her identity by removing her name from the FB thread.

OP, you started this as a "sanity check" well the results are in and it doesn't look like they're in your favour

OP you sound familiar. Did your username used to be calsmumsilly or something similar? The one who posted some highly offensive things about children with disabilities?

I remember Calsmum! She managed to upset quite a few people I remember. I thought she was going back to the US though because she hated it so much here. What do you reckon Hollamumma?

What a great thread! I'm glad I finally found the time to read through it all. Rob's post is terrific - especially compared with the heavily edited version of the original poster. You've won yourself another customer!
(and in the process I have now learnt the meaning of FWIW!).
