Uniforms

Postby Dr3amu » Thu Jul 14, 2016 10:51 pm

I received the uniform list for my child starting rutherford school and it was a lot of changing between winter, summer, forest school, pe kit. It felt quite overwhelming and I'd like to hear from parents about their experience...did your child dress/undress independently in reception? It's quite a lot of changing clothes for a small young child and I'm worried... Thanks for your feedback.

You'll prob find that they wear different uniform on different days depending on the timetable (whilst in lower school at least). My kids are not at Rutherford but they go in wearing games kit on days when sport is played, wear trainers on games days etc. It means you prob won't need as much uniform as you think as they are not wearing the same thing every day!

Our LO is at Rutherford and they go to school in their games kit which is usually twice a week. Previously they would have the kids change at school but found it took the best part of 30 minutes to get the kids ready for PE so they just come in their kit instead. On forest school days they just throw the waterproofs over the uniform and put wellies on so your LO should be fine.

Ah thanks that's helpful... do you mind me asking how many you bought of the normal uniforms, games and forest schools in reception? How often do they have forest schools days?

Hi there
My eldest is at RHS and I remember thinking the same about the uniform list this time last year!
We ignored the summer uniform until it got to Easter so you just to need look at the uniform + PE kit (shorts+tee+tracksuit jacket and trousers + trainers) and forest school is just their school outdoor coat plus waterproof trousers and wellies which are left at school all year.
It seems a lot but they do use it all and it's more straightforward than it sounds!

See you at the school gates in Sept!

Hi there,

Welcome to RHS. My eldest has just finished year 1 and though the list might seem daunting it is all actually far less complicated than it seems.

Forest school - they have a designated day for each class. Forest school gear (wellies and waterproofs) stay at school all year and just come back at the end of term for cleaning and repair. The teachers help the kids put their forest school gear on top of their uniform.

PE- again designated day. At first they used to change in and out of it at school but this year they opted to let the kids come into school in PE gear and stay in it all day.

Uniform quantities - 2 of each is a good starting point. If you want to be extra safe and avoid washing 3 is more than enough as they are in PE kit two days. One set is enough for PE kit as there is always time to wash in between . Blazer - 1 is enough. Jumpers/cardigans - 2 as they often leave them behind. Same for ties. Shirts - opt for half sleeve at first ( you don't get the cuffs dirty as easily and it gets quite warm at the school). They are quite particular about the shoes so do make sure to get black PE shoes rather than patterned or colored.

Good luck and see you in September.

I think the uniform list says black or navy for wellies. They'll spend most of the year covered in mud though so I don't think either matters!!

Does anyone know if rhs winter uniforms is compulsory when the children go back in september or can the children wear their gingham dress if it's warm enough in the first weeks? I tried looking up their uniform policy on their website but there was no website (which is odd!). Thanks
