break in the UK

Postby hol78 » Thu Jul 28, 2016 10:43 pm

Can anyone recommend a good location with things to do for toddlers (4 x people in total) near the beach in the last week of August - probably a self catering option but would consider other options . I know there are obvious options like centre parks but Im thinking more a cottage by the beach or on a farm near the beach or in a little village or town by the beach ?

North Norfolk is gorgeous.
Blakeney great for fishing by the harbour, wells next the sea has a beautiful beach and wiveton hall cafe has a great pick your own which the kids love. I'm sure there are loads of other things for kids too.
Burnham market is beautiful
Holkham hall also worth a visit.
Enjoy!

I would second Norfolk - when ours were tiny we found it was the perfect holiday place for toddlers. Lots of family friendly pubs (with little playgrounds etc) and gorgeous beaches - Brancaster and Holkham were our favourites. It's such an easy distance from London, too.

I highly recommend the Isle of Wight. We have just come back from Ryde. The best sandy clean beach that stretches for miles. Delicious Minghella icecreams every day and there is loads to do for children.
The is a lovely stream train and old 1930s tube trains which my son adored.
We went to The Needles, which has a chair lift down to the beach and plenty of attractions.
They have black gang chine and Robin Hill adventure park, which are theme parks
Shanklin has an old town with lots of pretty thatched cottages and tea rooms galore, the beach has lots of entertainment with a great crazy golf course.
Lots of good pubs and gin made on the island for the grown ups!

I've always loved Cornwall - there are so may great places to stay with children of that age and plenty to do whatever the weather. You may struggle to find availability in August though because it's peak school holiday period. If you can wait til early September you might have more luck. We stayed here a few years ago when our daughter was 2 and she absolutely loved it: http://www.poleanfarm.co.uk/ I've also read great things about Bosinver, Glynn Barton and Tredethick.

I agree completely with all those suggestions - Cornwall and North Norfolk are beautiful, and we loved taking ours when toddlers to the South Hams area of Devon which is slightly closer than Cornwall. Also agree wholeheartedly with GingerCat2's description of the Isle of Wight - my family went regularly when I was a child and my husband and I bought a house there when ours were small - we all adore it. There is masses to see on the island, great local beers (as well as gins!), beautiful beaches and some of the best sunset views in the UK. There's also something really magical for small children (and everyone else!) about going across the water. We let our house in Seaview (sleeps up to 10 but lends itself to smaller groups too because of its layout) but it's not available in August, I'm afraid - if you could hold out till September, it has availability. Send me a message if you are interested and I'll send you the link on Owners Direct - by the way, that's a great place to look for self-catering properties in the UK and all over the world.
