did you get a ring for giing birth?

Postby sunnymummy » Sun May 01, 2011 9:59 am

did you get given a ring or a present for giving birth?

my other half is sticking to his guns and saying that the gift is the darling daughter that we have. However I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say that a piece of me is enviouswhen I see eternity rings and expensive watches being worn by my friends for "giving birth"

did you get a gift and if you didn't do you mind?

maybe its only me who is so shallow :D :D :D

I got a Tiffany celebration ring, a half eternity ring i guess as I don't like the full ones. It was a lovely surprise :D

I don't think you are shallow at all.....carrying a baby for 9 months and then giving birth is hard work :o

I didn't with my first one, and everyone back home in NYC did, so I was not pleased. With the second I asked nicely and was not promised one, but when we got to NY and my husband kept seeing everyone's huge rings I got one! You totally deserve one too!

When I was pregnant with our first child (three years ago) I dropped a lot of subtle - and even more not-so-subtle hints about an eternity ring. Husband was a bit resistant to the idea but eventually he came around.

However, because I'd put on such a vast amount of weight when pregnant, I didn't want it straight away as I wanted the right ring for my hand when slimmer.
I still have an IOU for it, but the way I see it, the longer I leave it, the bigger the budget :D

Not sure what I should get for having our second child though. He's 6 months old now, and there's been no mention of matching earrings or anything like that .....

One ring for each so far...nothing else coming my way until I am 40! (8yrs!!)

Not at all shallow but something that lasts forever as a symbol of your child and can also be passed on to your daughters / daughters in law.
Along the the same sort of lines, we have our children's initials embroidered into the christening gown they wore - something to hand down through the generations, if they want it...!!

I didn't get anything when I had my Son, not even a bunch of flowers! This time round I dropped all sorts of hints about a 'push present'! I had my Daughter last week and apparently some sort of jewellery has been custom made but not arrived yet.. I'm very fussy so a little concerned but absolutely shocked that he's bought me something!!

Moops, when I read you didn't get so much as a bunch of flowers, I thought, 'aw, poor Moops'. Then realised I got nothing at all after having our second, and if he'd had his way I'd have got nothing for the first either!

(Apparently, he'd planned on getting me an eternity ring for our 10th anniversary, but I had no intention of waiting that long. Although if I don't shift the flab so I can get the ring, it'll be that long anyway).

Magdalen, you've reminded me I've also got an IOU for my 40th birthday present (I want a watch but couldn't find anything I liked when we were shopping for one).

My husband read 'A Bloke's Guide to Pregnancy' when I was pregnant 4 years ago, and in it the man didn't get his partner a present and felt terrible as the other men in the labour ward did. So my husband got me a half-eternity diamond band. haha

I should get that book for my (if ever) next child. I didn't get anything for any of my children. A bit disappointed but over the time I still think that I have a super husband. It's just not his style.

Not only did I not get flowers after having my DS but to make matters worse I actually gave birth on Mother's day!

Guilted my husband into giving me a ring a little later on though

I didn't get anything after my second ...and that time I gave birth onthe day before my birthday (not counting the new toaster that he got me as a birthday present  ).

Am off now to drop some hints about still being owed something extra!! ;)

Birth ring? Pah! I'm still waiting for an engagement ring/wedding band...

It does seem to be the done thing these days though judging by the rocks my friends have been given post baby. But hey, I've never been conventional!

I was a bit gutted too at first when I realised so many people I knew had them, but I'm actually much happier having our lovely house, nice holidays and wonderful baby - and we really couldn't afford to have that and the rings so it's all good.

I made it very clear that I didn't want anything even though my other half wanted to, I slightly regret it now!

I didn't think I wanted/needed anything, but after all that work, I felt like I deserved a little something. Although I will take a supportive partner who helps take care of LO and of me any day over a bauble, a pretty shiny thing would be really nice!

I didn't get a ring but I got a pair of Jimmy Choos and a pair of Louboutins! For me it was better than a ring as they made me super excited for my first night out after having the baby! lol - call me shallow but shoes are the way to my heart ;). Plus after lolloping around in flats for 9 months they were exactly what I needed to make me feel feminine and half way glamourous again!
