Help - 8 year old party girl ideas Post Reply

Hi,

I'm looking for inspiration for a birthday party for an DD8. She loves craft, such as sewing, but the sewing parties have a minimum age of 6 years, and DD5 would not be impressed if she couldn't come - they are v close. So we will do that next year.

Last year we did a traditional party at home where I did games. DD8 has asked for this again, but I thought I'd add in some craft activities. Here's the problem - I don't have an artistic or craft-related bone in my body. Can anyone point me in the direction of ideas that even I could manage to organise?

I'm doing the same this year for my 8 yr old daughter, a small craft party at home. Look at Yellow Moon for craft ideas, we're decorating small cardboard house boxes, but they've sewing packs on there too and other ideas such as mug decorating etc.

One idea I've seen that was really successful is decorating a Tote bag. Just buy a load of plain white or natural bags from amazon and then fabric pens/glitter pens/needle and thread/sequins/beads etc. You can download some stencils or designs from the internet to give them inspiration and if you wanted to theme it you can just adjust what you buy.

The bonus is that they can be used as the party bags at the end of the party.

Oh and its not really craft as such but if your daughter likes craft, she might enjoy everyone making their own pizza or decorating their own cupcake for the party tea.

One cheap and easy craft activity is to make tutus for Barbies. You just need to make little rings of elastic (only requires a couple of stitches from you in advance) and then cut up loads of strips of coloured netting (you can get rolls on Ebay). Then you the party guests can knot the netting round the elastic and you get a tutu - full instructions are easily googlable! We did this at my daughter's 7th birthday party and it worked pretty well.

Also have made necklaces in the past which is really easy - you just need beads and elastic.

One really good idea for your party would be a Piñata, I'm a Piñata crafter and a Cake maker and I'm developing a handcrafts business.

Try the Red Ted Art page for loads of ideas and tutorials. Otherwise why not hire someone crafty to run it? A friend of mine makes various crafty bits and is fab, she might be able to run the lot for you?!
