Cargo bikes

Postby Fairylights » Thu Sep 01, 2016 2:18 pm

Hi all, does anyone know of somewhere local which sells cargo bikes? I'd like to try a few out before buying one but have no idea where to look. TIA.

Hi,

Go to the Flying Dutchman in Camden. They're very family friendly and have the most amazing selection of cargo bikes etc.

Worth the trip!

I wouldn't buy new as so many are sold that are "nearly new" on Ebay or Gumtree etc. (I presume because people soon discover how dangerous they are and sell them on quickly)

Some while back I considered one - I recommend that you try one on a hill and loaded so you know what you are facing before you commit.

Personally I found them heavy and dangerously unstable for use anywhere near traffic... the phrase "unsafe at even slow speeds" comes to mind

We bought ours via Stratton Cycles on East Hill in Wandsworth, ordering it from Baboe bikes in the Netherlands (Mark at Stratton did all the engineering etc) online. Love it, we use it all the time in the summer and have a canopy for it in the winter. Send me a PM if you have any questions or want to stop by for a look-see (we're in the St Anns Hill area).

As a note, if you're going to use it to carry kids around in then consider ones designed for that like Baboe; all the corners are rounded, bolts etc hidden and there are adaptors for every type of kidseat from the maxicozi up.

Hi,

We used londongreencycles - http://www.londongreencycles.co.uk for looking after the Christiania I bought a couple of years back on eBay - set up saved searches on there, pre loved. London Green Cycles are brilliant and will let you test drive different ones to see which you are most comfortable with.

I recently traded in our two child one for the slightly bigger box, feels very flash having a new bike. They have me a great deal.

I love our cargo bikes and don't really use any other transport now - round commute is now about 16 - 20 miles a day with 3 kids (4,2,6 months).

Thanks everyone - that's really helpful. JenC - was it you who texted me over the weekend after I went into Stratton Cycles?
