Party venues

Postby gjpeck1 » Tue Sep 15, 2009 2:54 pm

I am looking for a venue for a 40th party, can anyone help? I wanted some cool drinks and a vibe, preferably in a private room off a bar (not really a room above a pub) but that kind of thing. Local area (SW11) would be good but would consider over the river to Chelsea other surrounding areas.
Please let me know asap if you have a recommendation.
Thanks. George

Welcome to NappyValleyNet and thank you for the post.

Hopefully we will get some ideas over the next few days but I will mention this in next weeks mailout (Monday pm) so that will definitely garner some response.

Best of luck

I've been to a few 40th's recently and a brilliant (but pricey) one was Bluebird Cafe on the Kings Road. They had a private room and it was really really lovely. If thats a bit too "North of the River" then the Bollingbroke on Northcote Road have a really nice room at the back, not sure if you can close it and hire it out but you used to be able to when it was the Inbreated Newt. Its right classy too!

The Northcote has been done up recently, but I don't know if it has a private room. I also haven't tried Brasserie James which is opposite Clapham South but I have heard good things.

Failing those we have been to some parties at the Fat Deli in Balham. Its a funny place, a cross between a cafe and a bar and a restaurant, but the food is seriously good (and I mean proper London foodie good) so all the nights out I have ever had there have been a total pleasure but you won't be admiring the suede banquettes if you get my drift.

Lastly, there have been some posts here from the Steam Bar (http://www.nappyvalleynet.com/viewtopic ... team#p1872" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), they seem nice so it might be worth checking out.

Good luck!!!

No idea whether they do parties but I went to a fantastic place today called The Avalon on Balham Hill up near Majestic. It was huge, really interesting building, fabulous garden area out the back and great food. Can't believe I've only just found out about it!!

George, I have recently opened Steam Bar & Restaurant at the top of East Hill (formerly 'Ditto'). We have a pretty cool bar area, and a private room that can seat up to 20 people. We are also running a birthday champagne promotion, whereby you get your age as a discount on your first bottle of champagne!!.
Hopefully we can help.

We went to a 40th birthday party last weekend at Auriol Kensington Rowing Club - fantastic location overlooking the river and Hammersmith bridge. Several floors, had welcome drinks downstairs then spit roast on balcony on upper floor and more drinks \ dancing downstairs.

Slight problem locating taxis at the end of the night...not sure whether that was due to location or quantity of Champagne!

Totally recommend venue.

How about The Duchess in Battersea? OK it is a room above a pub, but its a very cool pub and the private room has its own balcony with superb views of Battersea Power Station in all its glory. The food is good and a friend had a 40th there not so long ago which was excellent. Or, The Lost Angel in Battersea Park Road.....lovely place.
I'm The Balloon Lady so if you need any 40th birthday balloons do check out my details under Party Organisers...Balloons.

Good Luck!
