Kitchen Fitter (incl plumbing and electric rewire)

Postby londonite » Sat Oct 01, 2016 5:37 pm

Hi everyone,

We're looking to redo our flat's kitchen, but I was wondering if it is simpler to find someone to install that is also fully qualified for the plumbing/electric/gas work... we've been told we will need to rewire the full kitchen for safety, and I figure it may be easier to coordinate if it is a single supplier sorting this during installation as opposed to trying to juggle schedules of multiple contractors.

Anyone else done something similar? Recommendations on installers, or whether or not I should give up on my 'single supplier' notion and go separate?

Thanks!

Hi Londonite, we went down that route of having one person do it all - that way we did not have to coordinate diaries, and more importantly there was only one person responsible if it did not turn out the way it was planned. And far less stressful!

Hi Londonite, my advice depends on which route you go down for your kitchen:
1) There are some building firms that also offer bespoke kitchen design and installation. They will come out and firstly inspect the existing electrics to confirm if it does need a re-wire (and anything else you want/need doing). This way, it is all under one accountable party
2) Bring in a trusted, referred building firm to investigate the electrics and other things and get them to strip out the existing kitchen and fix all the basic building works. Talk to a specialist kitchen supplier to design and install your new kitchen once all the basic works have been completed. Most of these kitchen companies will not provide all the general building works required and also, you will need the builder/qualified electrician to do the second fix once the kitchen is installed and provide you with a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate.

If it was me, I would go down route 2 as it will give you more choice for the kitchen design, but does require a little more work on your behalf.
