Someone hit our car

Postby anett » Sat Oct 08, 2016 9:32 pm

Hi,
Someone hit our car parking on Salcott Road either today morning or a few days back. It is a black Jaguar. The other is probably white/silver.The back on the left got damaged. The person who did it left a note saying sorry and a phone number. Unfortunately when I rang the number the person who picked it up said doesn't even have a car. I might have read one of the digits wrong so I tried all possible options but no luck.
Please could you get in touch. Thank you. Anett

I'm just thinking - since the note has been left on a Tesco receipt, surely there's a CCTV footage of the person /car visiting the shop. Hopefully that gets resolved quickly.

Oh I very sorry to hear that Anett but this sounds identical to what happened to my husband last year - a clever rouse with the sole aim of getting away with not paying for the damage.

To explain; driver hits car but see that there are witness who will naturally record his details to pass on to the owner (by sticking their own notes on the car)...people are pretty public spirited about this sort of thing.

The guilty driver returns to the damaged vehicle and seems to write a note and places it under the damaged cars wiper.

Witnesses give a sigh of relief , and disperse about their business - forgetting the mental note they had made of the registration number and all the details not knowing that the "note" was gobbledegook!

My husband's car was reversed into in a hotel car park with plenty of witnesses including a colleague of his. His colleague told him about it thirty minutes later but that "not to worry they left a note"....the note was just scribble with no number or details but by that time everyone had forgotten the registration and only recalled the make of the car and colour

I hope you are wrong and you get this sorted properly.

Its a long shot but you could try reporting it to the police. There might be some CCTV installed nearby that you don't know about for example. Also, if the receipt has any bank details maybe they can be traced? Also, as someone said maybe the store can link the receipt number issued to CCTV footage at the time if prompted by the police.

I hope you find the perpetrator.

Thanks for the responses.
Sorry to hear the similar happened to you too.

I think we just have to deal with it ourselves. Fix it.
Police won't do anything about such minor incident...
The receipt has card details on it but as another person told me it might not be his/hers.

I might give it a go but w a 1 year old do not have much time to spare. To investigate.
Next time if anyone sees anyone hitting a car hope remember my post.
Thanks again.Anett

Good luck. Yes, in future if I see something happen I will make sure to be nosy, take a note of the details myself and assume the worst. I have recently had a driver hit my car when it was parked. I heard and saw the bang as did my son and took the drivers details, photographed the situation etc. Despite this I am still having trouble getting any joy from the other party's insurer as they simply denied hitting me! So if anyone does witness a car hitting a parked car please do be a good citizen and leave your details and note the number plate, car description yourself. Insurers also try to avoid the claims so it seems and insurance companies tell their customers to deny liability.

You've probably been had. There's not much you can do. Report it to the police but I can't see them pulling any stops out for this. Sorry.

Had similar thing happen to me in a supermarket car park. Car scratched, I assume people witnessed it and therefor the culprit felt compelled to leave a note. Number didn't exist.
