I asked my Pilates teacher exactly this question, she recommended anything from Lynne Robinson. Haven't bought one yet so can't recommend any personally there seems to be quite a lot!

I followed the Weight Watchers diet and joined a running club which helped.

On another note, I see a lot of womens' bodies and most normal women (by this I mean not celebrities) take a few months or a year to lose the baby weight. Even if we get back to the weight we were before the birth, we find that our shapes often change - my hips definitely got wider after child birth. One tip I would give to help disguise the tummy area is to avoid lightweight jersey tees and wear woven tops. The high street is full of the former but it really does cling to every lump and bump. A woven top, like a cotton shirt or shell will contour the body which is far more flattering and they are on trend at the moment too. Don't be tempted to hide under large baggy clothes either as these can add pounds. A well cut blazer or stylish bomber jacket can hide a multitude of sins. H&M have some well priced lightweight shapewear which I find more comfortable then some of the other more expensive brands.

Hi
I am a specialist post natal trainer. Please come and join me at Mummyfit
Tuesday and thursday 9.30 Bishops Park
I have been teaching postnatal classes for 12 years...there is nothing I dont know about mummytummy!
))
Where: Entrance to Bishops Park (as you turn off Putney bridge)
When : Tuesday and Thursday 9.30
How long: 1 hour
How much : £12 drop in, Class pass 6, £57 (£9.50 per class) Class pass 10, £90 (£9 a class)

Classes consist of Pilates, boxing, some power walking, and yoga. All my classes are catered towards postnatal women and have a strong emphasis on having a good workout but being aware that the body is in a state of healing and mum may be in a state of sleep deprivation! ))

So please come along. Lets have some fun and burn some fat!

My Approach:
Women who have had children require a entirely different approach tofitness training. To train a woman who has had a baby the same intensity
and duration as a woman who has not could be a recipe for injury and anunfulfilling , painful experience.
My classes will challenge but will not injure. My classes are fun andfriends are regularly made. I can help you to feel fabulous again or maybe
even better than before.

My Experience
I started teaching mummyfit when my own child was 6 months old, (he is nowalmost 13 years! ) I thought I would teach while on maternity leave butfound the classes to be so popular and so enjoyable that here I am stillteaching!
For 12 years I was teaching in centralLondon and have just moved to Putney where I have been given permission toteach classes in the beautiful ‘Bishops park’ - This park is just over Putney bridge on the Fulham side.In addition to my personal training qualifications I am specialist pre andpost natal instructor, yoga teacher and weight loss consultant.

All you have to do is turn up and let me do the rest!

Please feel free to ask any questions you would like xxx

Hi there,

I really sympathise with you as I was in the same position a year or so ago after the birth of my second child. I am a size 8-10 and have always done a lot of Pilates, however my flabby and inflated-looking tummy (!) would not disappear until I found something that worked:

I cut out cheese and also swapped my usual semi-skimmed milk for skimmed milk. That did the trick! I am generally a healthy eater (which I count as being everything in moderation, including chocolate/ puddings and other treats), however I realised that for speed, with a toddler and newborn baby, I was eating more and more cheese - a quick cheese sandwich at lunchtime, that sort of thing.

Anyway, just eliminating that really worked, for me.

Best of luck.

Best of luck.

It really is the million dollar question in my women's health Physio clinic and I was in exactly the same position after having my very big baby and putting on loads of weight in pregnancy!

This has led me to doing lots of research on this topic. I particularly wanted to know why most of the women that I treat with urinary incontinence all have almost EXACTLY the same posture. Skinny arms and legs, a small bum (it has usually decreased in size since pre pregnancy), a flattening of the stomach about 4 fingers underneath the ribcage often with a crease along the abdomen, and then a 'pouch' in the front of the belly. When looking at them side on, the tailbone is tucked underneath and the flattening at the top of the abdomen and the pouch below it and around the umbilicus are particularly evident and their weight is through their heels when standing.

Anyways. I have found the answer!
Most women are over recruiting their upper most external oblique abdominal muscles because they are conscious of their bigger bellies post pregnancy and constantly sucking their tummys in. This is then making them tuck their tailbones underneath of them which doesn't allow their gluteal muscles to activate and makes the bum smaller. Anytime we cough, laugh or sneeze we get increased pressure in the abdomen and this pressure has to bulge somewhere (imagine a balloon being squeezed), and when the external obliques, that are just below the ribs are constantly being over recruited, we get an uneven distribution in the pressure and it bulges forwards in front of the abdomen and makes the Mum pouch.

This constant over recruitment of the external obliques also puts a downward pressure onto the pelvic floor and weakens it over time, which can result in urinary incontinence! I also find that women who have this flattening find it VERY difficult to fully relax their pelvic floor, so often have a tight weak pelvic floor.

SO if you have a Mummy Tummy:
1) Relax you uppermost abs!
2) Untuck your tailbone and stick your bottom out a little
3) Make sure you have had your tummy muscle separation checked by a women's health physio as this could be messing with the pressure distribution in your belly too.
4) Avoid sugar (especially if you feel stressed) as cortisol and sugar = tummy fat.
5) Get your pelvic floor muscle strength assessed by a WH physio after you have had a baby as the abdominals, diapraghm, deep back muscles and PF are so closely linked in the way that work together to deal with the increased pressures involved in coughing, laughing, lifting and sneezing!
6) See a WH physio BEFORE you have any problems! 1 in 3 women in the UK have urinary incontinence :(

My friend lost two stone post baby using London Muscle Workouts - she didn't go hyper muscley but dropped from a 12-14 to a 10 in three months. She was recently featured on the daily mail for her success! Lots of case studies from this plan on the DM too. They have a home and separate gym plan so is really accessible if you are at home and can't get to a gym.

It also sounds like you are not fueling your body properly going low carb -depending on your body's metabolism low carb doesn't work for everyone .

My friends attended this thing in south london called the Fat Attack or something like that, I think it's this one http://www.fatattack.co.uk/bootcamps/crystal-palace/

A woman called Vanessa runs it. I've heard some incredible things about it but not had the chance to do so myself. According to friends it was intense but totally worth it though!

Getting the mummy tummy flattened out will be hard work hun and it does take time. Be patient. Don't get rid of carbs, your body needs it. Just eat minimal amounts of carb and you might want to lean on to a more fruity diet.

What you mean a fruity diet? Fruits are very carby often and also high sugar. Most trainers I know tend to recommend berries etc as the best fruit options.

Lean in 15 is great, really good book just to find some good meals in. I wouldn't recommend following the full programme - I tried it and very strict/ hard diet.

Hi guys. I'm also a mum, though my kids are already big, I still have this mummy tummy for so long now. I don't have lot of time for workouts. Lately I realized that it's already part of me and part of being a mum. It's like embracing the mommyhood every part of us we should be proud of.
