I understand why you feel you ought to get rid of it but it saddens me so much that at such an early age your daughter will be taught that in order to fit in she must conform to the stereotypical image of a woman. If this were a boy with a bit of hair across his top lip would you feel the need to remove that?
For the moment I think if she hasn't noticed then I wouldn't draw attention to it either.

Why do you need to get rid of it? She's only 7! I certainly won't be starting hair removal as soon as my daughter starts growing some. I'm quite shocked that you would even consider it.

I don't think you need to do anything unless your daughter is concerned but if you haven't it might be worth starting a discussion about the body changes that we go though as we grow up.....if puberty is starting she is likely to start showing other signs soon.

Although girls starting puberty earlier than in the past is more common, very occasionally precocious puberty can be a sign of a underlying health issues so I would also definately consult your doctor just to check.

Firstly, as someone else said, this does need to be checked out by a GP as 7 is v young, almost certainly nothing to worry about, but important to check.

The issue about whether to remove the hair or not is personal and needs to be a decision you make togetter I think. Whilst I completely agree that she should not be 'body shamed' and I doubt this was the OP's intention (!) kids do notice and pick up on things and I can quite understand why you'd be considering it.

My 7 year old daughter is quite dark in skin tone, and has really quite hairy legs- she has said that some of her friends have commented on it, so these things don't always go unnoticed even at 7. We had a chat and I said that I would let her remove it if she really wanted, but that it was natural and lots of children had the same. Luckily she was happy to leave it, but I suspect it won't be too long before she wants it gone and I'd much rather she talked to me about it (as she did) than be worried in secret or attempt to use her dad's razor in secret (which happened to one of my friend's daughters aged 8.)

Good luck.

It's not all about aesthetics. Hairy armpits can be very uncomfortable, especially when doing sport, and I see nothing wrong with removing it to make your child more physically comfortable. I appreciate this isn't the case with OP's daughter if she hasn't noticed it.

Hi

Firstly i think you should do what is best for your daughter - some girls will be happy with having hair but for some girls it will make them very unhappy and so its your decision.

7 is young, my dd was 8 when started getting more hair and we did get her checked by the GP just for reassurance as previous poster said.

Regarding removal she is now older and quite hairy all over so after a lot of discussion and to be honest some very hurtful comments from girls in the changing room at PE and swimming we now remove under arm hair with hair removal cream but as yet keeping her very hairy legs.

I hope this helps?

Thank you to everyone who posted sensible replies. I really appreciate it. As to the others, I can't believe that someone could suggest I am trying to body shame my daughter. I would NEVER do that. I think she is perfect. I am just very aware of children nowadays who seem to be a lot more vocal and develop mentally and socially quicker. I only ever wanted to make sure that my daughter was comfortable and that if it did bother her, I would support her in removing it if that is what she wanted hence asking what people how they do it. If she wanted to leave then I would support her in that too. I was only asking what other Mothers do if their children DO want to remove their hair, there was nothing more sinister.

Can I just add I think you are very brave, at the very least this is a sign that your girl is growing up and that is hard for all of us at various points to acknowledge. My Son is 8 and he has body odour when he has been sweating a lot. We've talked about it and he agrees a quick spray of deodorant is better than being smelly, but it has been hard for me to accept this is already happening. Can i also add those people who cried 'body shaming' on this thread ought to THINK and RE READ what they have written before they post going forward. Shameful.
