Architect recommendations please

Postby pie81 » Mon Oct 31, 2016 6:06 pm

Hello

We are looking to do a big refurb/remodel on our house (incl. basement digout and layout changes on each floor) and we are looking for an architect. We would like to find someone who:

- knows the Wandsworth planning rules and system and can take us through pp
- is happy to help us draw up a detailed spec for builders to quote against
- is collaborative and user friendly
- is interested in details (things like, say, where to put built in cupboards and which way doors should open) as well as the big structural stuff
- is available to meet or chat at weekends or in the evenings occasionally if necessary

We're not sure yet whether we would want someone to project manage or not.

If you have used an architect you would recommend please would you let me know their details by PM or email or reply to this thread?

Thank you!

Hi pie81,

I hope you don't mind me recommending my husband's firm, Thomas and Spiers Architects.

He's got several Nappy Valley Net clients so with any luck someone else will come along with a non-biased recommendation, but in the meantime you can see their work here:
https://www.facebook.com/thomasandspiers
or
http://www.thomasandspiers.com/projects/

My husband is Christophe Spiers and he meets all your requirements though I might put my foot down about the last one ;)

I hope this is helpful.

Sophie

Hi there

I second the Thomas and Spiers recommendation wholeheartedly! Very happy client here. Christophe did a wonderful job for our side return (and I know does much bigger projects too so will be able to help you). We had a particularly complex boundary issue and used them for plans, the planning process (they know Wandsworth council v well), plus detailed tendering. This really was money well spent as the only areas that we went over budget on were those where we upped the spec (i.e absolutely no hidden surprises). In terms of the finer details, Christophe had some really good, well thought through ideas to make our lives easier.

I can't recommend them enough - they made an unfamiliar and rather daunting process so easy. We are thrilled with the result (also recommend Upsher Harrison as builders!) Would be very happy to answer any Qs or for you to see our extension - just DM me :)

Good luck!

Hello, a belated thank you for the replies above (and PM). I will definitely look at Thomas and Spiers thanks. Sophie I know the evenings/weekends thing would be a bit of an ask ;)

Mike, I notice you on NVN a lot and your website looks interesting, have you any customer recommendations on NVN or elsewhere?

Good Afternoon,

I just had a read through your post and it sounds very interesting. We run an architecture practice on Old York Road, Wandsworth. We work on a variety of local projects and some further afield. All of the Directors live locally and have an in depth understanding for the different architecture here. We listen to our clients and strive to get the balance right for what they want done along with maximising the design to it's full potential.

Please feel free to call on the number below anytime. I look forward to hearing from you or if you would prefer you can email us at: info@draw-architecture.co.uk

We look forward to hearing from you,

Kind Regards,

Absolutely would not recommend Thomas and Spiers. My sister had a very bad experience with them this year.

Hello,

We are currently going through a similar project and have used Gauld Architecture. I've know Kevin Gauld socially for a while but have never used him professionally. Having made the decision to go with Kevin and his team has been 100% right. There have been several iterations of the final design and we felt that Kevin and his team listened to our ideas and incorporated them into the final design that went into planning. Very relaxed to deal with & 100% professional and just a lovely team.

Can you elaborate (either here or in a PM)?

Hi there

I wholehearedly recommend Thomas and Spiers as well. Christophe and his team did a fabulous job on our extension in Balham and a year later we are still extremely happy with the result. He listened to us, was responsive, creative and worked extremely well with the builder (who was also very good). If you want to come and take a look either PM me or speak to Thomas and Spiers who know that we are willing to show people our beautiful extension!

Hi, many apologies Pie81, juts looking back through the threads, you asked if we had any client testimonials. You can either look at us on Houzz http://www.houzz.co.uk/pro/ensoullondon/__public for our reviews or call me and i can put you in contact with clients. Best regards, Mike
