Hi,

I wonder if anyone else has had issues with their child being wet in the mornings. About half the time when I pick my boy (2years old) up in the mornings from his cot his sleep suit and gro-bag are damp with urine.

I suspect it's because he's a boy and he sleeps on tummy (often with his bum in the air) and this causes a gap between the top of the nappy and his tummy, and given he's a boy it's an easier direction for the urine stream to hit instead of the nappy.

We've tried 3 or 4 different brands of nappies, but to no success. We've tried using a double nappy. Also no success. We've also tried using the "pants" style nappies. Also no success.

If I try making the nappy really tight he complains it's too tight.

This isn't a problem at any other time, including his day time naps (which are much shorter).

Anyone experienced this?

My 1 year old always used to be wet in the mornings. Her diaper was completely full and her bed was usually damp too. It's just because she wets her diaper a lot overnight. We solved the problem by changing her when we go in to check on her before we go to bed around 10PM or 11PM. We just change her diaper while she's still half asleep in her cot and she rarely wakes up fully. Just change your son a few times overnight. I don't think there's a product that will solve the problem.

Agree with Babber, change them at night (and if possible put them on the potty at the same time), problem sorted.

Even if they are not totally 'ready' whatever that means! Introduce a potty during the day time then who ever is last to go to bed at 11pm or later wake little one up and take them to the potty/toilet.
Or..
Maybe change the grow bag and put an absorbable sheet down and big duvet. Sometimes I thought the grow bag encouraged mine to curl up into a ball and a duvet creates the starfish position.

Hi, the fact that it isn't happening every night makes me wonder if it's something really simple. Apologies if this sounds ridiculous, but after 26years of nannying, I've experienced most things. When you put his night time nappy on, do you make sure his willy is pointing downwards? It's amazing how easy it is for that not to be the case. Hence when he wees everything is going upwards! Especially if he sleeps on his tummy!

A good test is, when he wakes soaking wet, is his actual nappy soaked through? Or is that still partially dry?

After 9 months of trying to get him to sleep through the night and just having got that sorted, we're quite resistant to anything that wakes up up in the night. Experience so far would imply thats not "5 mins and back to sleep" but "hours".

@Lindseyj, thanks for that suggestion. Given it doesn't (or rarely) happens with his day time nap (which isn't in the gro bag), will look at giving that a god,

@NannySal, I have tried making sure his willy is pointed downwards. Although giving the amount of wriggling he does this is a difficult thing sometimes. Will try ensure this a bit better tho. And you are correct, there are times he's wet but his nappy seems to be barely so.

We have exactly the same problem with our 2 year
old boy. I'd say it happens 50 per cent of nights. Best nappies in my opinion are Pampers extra absorbent. You could try putting an extra one on or buy some over the top plastic pants.
He is nowhere close to potty training and frankly neither my husband nor I can face waking him to change him as he isn't a very reliable sleeper. So we are just riding it out.
Never had this issue with our daughter- suspect it's a combination of willy pointing up and lying on his front.
Interested to see if you get any ingenious suggestions here!

Probably a bit harsh, but what about reducing the quantity of liquid (water / milk) he gets in the evening so his bladder is not too full during the night ?

We had exactly the same issue. Also didn't want to wake the little one to change in night as he had not been a great sleeper.
We've done a couple of things that seem to have done the trick. Firstly reduced his drink of bedtime milk to a tiny amount (increasing his drinks earlier in the day). Also (this was my husbands suggestion & I wasn't sure it would work but so far so far good..!) put a reusable nappy cover over the disposable one. It seems to keep the nappy in place a bit more securely. Not had a 100% success rate but the leaks we've had have been small (just a bit around the waist band) and no where near as frequently (it was happening nearly every night, now I can't remember the last one) Good luck, it's the most frustrating thing having a toddler wake up wet so I hope you can sort it soon x

we had this issue with my one year old. The only thing that worked was switching to Pampers "premium protection" nappies. They don't sell them everywhere all hte time but we haven't had a single wetness issue since using them.

most doctors and nurses recommend not waking up your child at night. also, in my experience 2yo is early for potty training, certainly at night time.

we have a very similar issue - i find pampes baby dry better than active fit, but not 100% reliable. i would not go too tight - somehow a size up seems to make it better than using his normal nappy size. i think just wait it out. mine wakes up from being wet so i do change him at that time.

We have had similar issues with my 2 year old girl.

We moved from gro bag to duvet as she was getting in the gro bag and then getting stuck! With the duvet she takes everything off and then puts her clothes back on - sometime with the nappy / sometime not.

After going crazy changing sheets about 4 times a night I put her in a vest that buttoned around the nappy. She can't undo the buttons and the nappy stays on.

You have probably tried this but if not.....
