New to London- opinions welcomed!

Postby RobinB » Mon Dec 12, 2016 10:07 am

Hello! I am new to London, just arrived on 1 December from Michigan in the US. I have moved here to Putney/Wandsworth with my husband (for his job) and our 2 teenage sons (13 & 15). The school admission process is so very different here and my head is spinning! It seems there are no state schools that will take my 15 year old, Year 11. We have toured a few that will take my 13 year old, Year 9. We are leaning towards ARK Putney Academy. Would love any feedback on this school choice. We feel forced to send our older son to ACS Cobham, which is a very far commute and very expensive. Are there any other options for him that you know of? He'd be welcomed at ARK Putney next year for 6th Form, so that is an option. Sorry for the length of this and I look forward to any replies!

There are many more posters with far more detailed knowledge of the school system than I. However the state school system must take your 15yr old. If you are here legally then it's the legal obligation of the local council to provide a facility.

Good luck!

Welcome to Wandsworth :D

Have you tried the Bollingbroke Academy?
Is the issue related to GCSE coursework and examinations?

Plenty of parents here with secondary age children who should be able to advise.

Which schools have you approached for your 15 years old? Don't you have to go trough Wandsworth Council for applications?
