Interference on wires?

Postby mum2000 » Wed Dec 14, 2016 12:35 pm

I have a bit of a random question. I finally got round to installing a normal phone in my house (after 10 years) as am now working from home one day a week. However, the phone line was really dodgy so I got a BT engineer to come out to check the phone line. He said there was nothing wrong with it but that he was picking up a lot of interference in the electrical circuit in my study. His suggestion was to get an engineer out. So two questions: (i) has anyone ever had this problem and (ii) can you recommend a good electrician? Thanks!

Hi mum2000,

Do you have problems of electrical interference with TV/mobiles ?

Do you have another phone you can try ?

Sorry I don't have an electrician to recommend but there will be someone out there who can diagnose.

I suspect it's on the telephone side rather than the house wiring so I'd be tempted to ask BT to come back.

Regards,

Stuart

Hi Mum2000, yes, i have seen this before and it's really annoying as you know. In my experience, an electrician won't be able to trace the fault unless they are really experienced as it tends to be due to electromagnetic Interference between the mains cables and the phone lines. There are the obvious things to look at like fitting micro-filters on all your phone lines, but, if the BT Engineer came and said there is a wider problem, then there probably is.

The best thing may be to talk to a home Networking specialist; i know one that may be able to help so drop me a line mike@ensoul.co.uk or call me on 020 3637 0700 and i will see if i can help, all the best, Mike Lander, Director, www.ensoul.co.uk
