Top "posh" baby names revealed...

Postby Annabel (admin) » Thu Jan 05, 2017 5:37 pm

From Tatler, link at the bottom...

If you're having a baby next year, we've done the hard work for you and picked out some of the poshest names known to man. Don't be fooled if someone suggests Cecilia or Rupert. They don't know what they're talking about - these are the real deal. Some are even centuries old. Let's make them popular again!

Ha!

Imagine the lifetime of mental torture you would give your son if you named him "Npeter" where the "N" is silent...

I feel there is a fair amount of "tongue firmly in cheek" in this list!

Yak, Yellow and Koala... If any child born this year ends up with one of these three names they will probably sue their parents ca. 18 to 20 years from now due to excess bullying (at school) and total lack of common sense (the parents, not the bullies) ...

I would have thought that Wendy, David, John & Kenneth were commonly used names rather than "posh" names.

Stalin is missing from the list...
Oberod, I think I am going to change my own name by deed poll to Power Oberod! and ensure that people remember to put the exclaimation mark at the end.

After a number of my friends got in touch to tell me about this post I thought I better revive my nappyvalleynet username and password and get in touch. Because...

these are my children's names!

Badger, Clementine, Florence and Zebedee have all been or are at Honeywell School. They are fabulous, healthy and sometimes naughty children with very good senses of humour and they seem very happy with their names.

I think this is because they were not named to be "posh" but to give them a sense of meaning and of worth. So, Badger means "Marked for a purpose"
Clementine "Merciful one"
Florence "One who flourishes and blossoms" and
Zebedee "Gift of God."

They all have middle names also full of meaning, links to family and affirming our love and gratitude for them.

Someone once said, giving a name to a person or animal is not a mark of our control over them, but of our love for them. Naming our children is an amazing privilege as parents. It is one of our first and most lasting acts of love. Posh or not, name with love.
