The mumsnet thread is fascinating. It's opened my eyes to what can be done to manipulate social media/google searches. Who knew?!

I think this brings a new post about how companies manipulate reviews and social media.

We renovated out place 2 years ago and decided to review the few companies that we wouldn't even want our worst enemies to use! What we observed was interesting :

1- if they were a member of any association they delisted from them (and it's worth checking they are a member of any logos displayed on their website - the solar thermal company we used put 4 industry affiliation logos on their website and 3 they were not members of)

2 - bad reviews on the website (eg on Yell.com). They would just remove their business. Wandsworth sash Windows did this, see other forums for what happened with us and other users.

3 - they would use a company (like 'Reputation' ) to clean up they online image and get reviews posted that possible were not real.

4 - sites like Trustnet old take down reviews on the request of the company (as the companies paid TrustNet to be on their website - don't want to bite the hand that feeds you hey!).

So don't believe the Internet. if companies don't have reviews there may be a reason for this, word of mouth is the best recommendation. And always pay on credit card as you are then protected if things go wrong .

Hi there,

Anyone currently using BuildLondon and having issues (several unexplained delays and generally terrible customer service)?

We are going through a hellish build with them at the moment, and to add to how companies can clean up the bad online reputation, a couple of months ago, they had several poor reviews on google (including mine) with people experiencing the same rubbish service. These reviews have mysteriously disappeared now. Definitely something fishy going on.

Anyhow, how would like to reach out to anyone currently using them and having issues (or if you're having a good experience with them as well please reach out) so we can come together and hopefully make some progress in getting our builds to be completed.

Thanks.

After the furore over the summer with the Mumsnet threats that Daisy experienced etc, I kept a close eye on Build Team. They have 'rebranded' and have had a new flashy website made. I strongly expect a name change will be on the horizon also. If only it was just a case of style over substance, but the stories we hear indicate it's much worse than that. In my experience, proper, reputable builders do not have flashy websites maybe because they are too busy out there doing the work and quoting. If you want to see a builders work go and visit a recent project. I feel so sorry for all you people going through this - we have to keep the matter alive so more potential victims do not fall into the trap.

Why not try Alan Beirne the builder. He has over 40 years experiece, gives great advice and can work well with just about any architect/ engineer as well as clients. He can provide references going back about as far as that as well for just about every domestic building project under the sun apart from basement excavations.
You can ring him on 07904 376665. He taught me everything I know. Limitless knowledge and he's a time served electrician as well.

I'd be very interested to hear if the review was reposted.

I believe a new law was passed last month (http://www.lexology.com/library/detail. ... f0e1a0e808) which helps prevent these takedown notices being served...
