Travel insurance when pregnant?

Postby Fran » Wed May 18, 2011 10:37 am

Can anyone could recommend a travel insurance company which would cover me knowing I will be 30 weeks pregnant by the time I travel to Corsica?
I've heard about Ravenhall group, any advice please????

Many thanks in advance xx

I recently travelled to Maldives when I was 28 weeks pregnant, in the end we used the travel insurance offered by my partners Lloyds bank account - he just got me added for the trip. Key things to ensure it includes is cover not only for early birth but also that the baby is covered for medical treatment too if you do have him/her abroad, plus repatriation costs if they need to fly you home. I have also heard about Ravenhall. Looks like you pay anywhere from £25 -£40 for a decent policy.

Also, I got a fit to fly cert from the Docs just in case and BA DID ask for it at the check-in desk and as I got on the plane so definitely get one of those, even though the advice I read was pretty non-commital on the need for it.

Enjoy your hollibobs!

Please, please read the small print before you travel. When I was pregnant I had a policy with Insure and Go. I checked that I was covered for pregnancy related things both on the phone and by reading the FAQs and they assured me I was.

I did have to go in to hospital while I was on holiday as I had terrible stomach cramps (which turned out to be trapped wind - whoops!). As we were in the US the bill was around $3000. When I tried to claim I was told I couldn't and when I read the Ts & Cs found out that I was not covered apart from for miscarriage. It was a total scam. They did everything in their power not to pay out and made an already stressful situlation much worse.

I did get them to pay in the end but it took a lot of time and arguing.

Make sure they cover hotel expenses for your partner and for yourself should you deliver the baby early. Some policies don't so it can cost a fortune should anything happen and your partner need to stay in the same country.
