To all you cooks out there - I am looking to replace my ancient Magimix. What should I get? I cook a lot. Am thinking Magimix plus blender for soups and smoothies? My Magimix is over 20 years old so I am out of date but that used to be the thing to get! Is it still? Nutri-bullet good but small I think. Also any views on Thermomix? Never though about a bowl-type mixer like a Kitchen-Aid. Assume Magimix can same things? Any advice gratefully received!

Hi Writerlady! If I were you I would seriously consider getting a Thermomix. I got one a while ago and it's amazing - does so much and is a huge timesaver. As a blender its on a par with Vitamix, and it does so much else - chops, grinds, mixes, cooks, makes excellent bread doughs, steams etc etc. The only thing it doesn't do that a magi is or trad food processor does is slice and grate. It's a big investment, but I think its worth it. Hope this is helpful!

My sister in law is a local Thermomix consultant, so she could come and give you a free demonstration to show you how it works. It's a big investment but they're pretty amazing pieces of kit. Let me know if you want me to put you in touch. There's no obligation at all but you should see it in action before you make any decisions

Why do you want to replace your magimix? Is the motor still ok?

My mum went to replace her one a few years ago at Peter Jones and the guy recommended she just get new fittings and bowls for the old one as they had such well made motors, new stuff isn't made to last anymore... It's still going strong.

But I guess if you really want new features, it's fun to get something new...

Thanks all for great advice! I have bought a new Magimix! I just couldn't justify the huge price of a Thermimix unfortunately!!

@brihoney - I thought hard about replacing parts but needed both bowls and lid which would have been quite a proportion of £279 cost of new machine. Also have had two children since purchase so really needed the next size up! Lasted 22 years though which isn't bad!!

Yes 22 years is lots! I love my magimix - was given it by an aunt for our wedding and although didn't really use it till we had kids, its used almost daily now. She got me the one with 3 different size bowls you nest inside so works for everything.

I have had my eyes on one of those and saving for one. They are quite incredible. Thermummix is a friend of mine and she did a demonstration for me. Honestly, it was a great curry. They are not cheap but worth the price I think.

If you host a demo you get some goodies, best get a few friends together and contact thermomix via the website for your local rep. Then if you buy one you'll get some free books or other items. They do a cookery school every once in a while too. My mum bought me a second hand one and she's got both the old and the new digital version. It's amazing for white sauce, risotto (it does all the stirring) and soups. I still have a kenwood for cakes and a nutribullet for small stuff but I probably could do it all in the thermomix (revolutionised my pizza dough making too!)
