One Piece or Bikini? I want to find out how you feel about little girl in a bikini? its been a controversial topic in the Media Lately and I wanted some fellow mums views on this issue. Would you allow your daughter to wear a bikini on holiday?

I have to say my girls don't wear bikinis (they are four and nearly three). I'm not overly comfortable with really little ones in bikinnis and I find they ride up and don't offer them any sun protection. I kit mine out in those not very attractive sun suits. They make the whole sun cream application battle that much easier and are so much more practical when they are so young. When they start to refuse to wear one I'll be putting them in one pieces.

I prefer tankinis or bikini bottoms
Or mine go naked
Bikini tops are just unnecessary hassle on small kids imho

thank you the comments, I have found it useful when buying SS12 Collection. I totally agree as I have a 2 year old daughter myself and feel a one piece is so much more comfortable and appropriate for her age.

I have a little girl and would never put her in a bikini. It just feels a bit inappropriate. All over sunsuits are great for hot weather and there are some beautiful swimming costumes out there for little girls.

my girls are 3.5 and 1.5 so maybe a little young for this topic. but I find it really disturbing to do that. children grown up too fast in london anyway, why burden them with fashion and sexual imagery too. very weird.

I don't have daughters so this isn't an issue for me, but as always, I have an opinion!

Have times changed? I have photos of me as a toddler upwards, in bikinis, and I don't look at them and think it's inappropriate. Occasionally, if my swimming cossie was wet, or it was an impromptu stop, I'd be paddling in just my knickers. Is that more or less inappropriate than a bikini? Is a bikini top, given that it covers the nipples, the inappropriate part?

My mother would be horrified if she thought her choice of swimwear was sexualising me.

Lucky you are given the choice... My 5-year old is very opinionated cloth-wise and she definitely adores bikinis - ever since she was 2 actually. She still has a big baby tummy and chubby cheeks so frankly it does not make her look sexy at all, rather funny. I may be wrong but I think that I'd rather have her wear weird clothes now than when she is 12/15. That said I agree that one-piece is definitely more practical and thankfully these go down perfectly well with my 3-year old.

I'm not keen on bikinis for little girls at all, I'd actually rather my daughter ran around naked by the pool. I suppose this may seem like warped logic but to me a bikini unnecessarily sexualises them.
Last summer my kids were either in full UV suits or naked depending on the time of day and strength of the sun.

You don't say how old your daughter is. I deplore the idea of bras for 7 year olds but most 'bikinis' for little girls tend to be more a bottom with a frilled cropped top, don't they. I think they look cute. However, maybe if she is 9 or 10 you might suggest that swimsuits are a touch more sophisticated. Depends, though, on whether you wear a bikini yourself. Maybe they just like to be like mum (drink it all in - all too soon they want ANYTHING BUT looking like mum!)
