Well this thread is most amusing!

Never went to Doves but I'm getting a picture of a business that objected to any customer who didn't look and talk like the chimney sweep in Mary Poppins.

People on here and many on Google reviews mention rude, unfriendly service. Owner then says people don't like shop keepers who 'tell it like it is.' Nope they don't. They tend to like shop keepers who serve them with courtesy. Funny that.

A good piece of advice is don't bite the hand that feeds you

Dove's Annual Return is a public document. Its not for me to comment on the health of the business, but many on here will be able to read a set of accounts and form their own opinion on the health of the business

https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/comp ... ng-history

The rise in property values in the area goes hand in hand with the changing customer demographic. You are unlikely to have one without the other. Dove's owners may not be happy that their clientele has changed, but are they happy to have a secure retirement income based on the effect that changing clientele has had on property values ?

I've never used Doves but I was amused to read this on their website;

"(Doves) aim is to provide a service that is friendly, informative and built on a relationship with the customer. We chat (alot) and like to make our customers feel part of the business, encouraging them to ask about cuts, recipes and tips on cooking, giving advice and generally explain the importance of great meat. We buy from respected long-term suppliers and together we try to provide a butchers shop you can trust. "

...and compare this with some of the shocking experiences above... :o

After three generations of service I'm saddened that the owners felt the need to do a last-minute trashing of their customers and the people who now live in the area.

An unnecessary sour and bitter note to leave behind as a final testimony that curdles the memory of their good service.

We have regularly used Moens (Clapham Common) and Ginger Pig (Abbeville Road), and would recommend both. Moens in particular are brilliant at chatting through options with you, or engaging over what you are going to do with the meat you have bought.

We also use Chadwicks in Balham. Good produce and they don't seem to hate their customers, which is always a plus!

all I can say is good riddance. Maybe Northcote Road will get something new run by EU migrants who actually know what value and customer service is and don't sneer at their customers.
Usual Papinian trolling. Just ignore it; we mostly do.

The Butchery; Forest Hill or Bermondsey. 020 7237 0182
Amazing butcher, one of the last whole carcass butchers and he ages on the premises.

I know it's further afield, but I second the recommendation for The Butchery (Forest Hill or Bermondsey).

If you do go to the Bermondsey Spa Terminus market, there is also: http://osheasbutchers.com. Their salt marsh lamb is excellent.

Thank you but not sure i ll go all the way to bermondsey to go to the butcher's. Hennesseys suits me just fine. Not sure why my post on bayley and sage was deleted by the way, i was just saying that they were great but that they should be selling more prepared food. Does not sound very controversial :)

And there was an interesting post (from username 'David' I think) with links to the planning applications submitted to Wandsworth BC with regards to what's happening with the Dove site...it's being converted to 4 flats above (3 two bed and 1 one bed) and with the overall retail status changing from A1 (shops) to A3 (restaurant). It looks like it's been bought by a bunch of Fund managers who will do it all up and then either sell off or rent out.
I wouldn't have thought that was controversial either but that post was deleted too...

Hi
I am so sorry about the missing posts. I had hoped we'd gotten away with it!

We are going through a big redesign at the moment and part of that work is in the "back end" which involves databases and stuff (to be honest I'm not a techie so don't understand).

It went a bit wrong on Monday morning and we found that a number of a) posts and b) users who had been active over the weekend had disappeared.

We thought we managed to get them all back but it looks like we missed a few.

If you can tell me what they related to (and I've got some clues from post above) then we can go looking for them as we haven't actually deleted them just mislaid them!

So apologies again and it's nothing to do with censorship - just us getting in a bit of a muddle!

We'll go and look for the truck and Bayley and Sage now...

I wonder if the Dove premises are big enough for another Ivy offshoot?
